Highway 2 Health

Information

***URGENT!!! HIGHWAY NEEDS YOUR HELP!!***
A fellow rescue friend found an injured dog on the median of I-49 and risked life and limb to save him. He was hit by a car and has SEVERE injuries. She was on vacation and tried to find him help…well, she did from the good people at the Natchitoches Humane Society. Their wonderful volunteers have named the pup Highway. Highway has a broken pelvis and severely dislocated hip. But through all his pain, Highway remains sweet and gentle and seems to know the volunteers are there to help him. The Natchitoches Humane Society desperately needs help with the cost of his treatment. Some funds have been raised for his surgery but they are still quite a bit short for the surgery and after care. The Natchitoches Humane Society is in a rural area with limited resources, but wonderful people. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated! Please, please help Highway!

Here is my friend’s story in her own words:
My husband and I drove from Tampa to Dallas for the holidays. On our return drive through Louisiana, we found a German Shepherd on the median on the interstate. He was clearly injured and laying in the mud. We stopped and were so glad to find he was friendly even though he couldn't walk at all. We weren't sure what to do with the dog in an unfamiliar town on a Sunday. Luckily, we were connected with a sheriff who was a volunteer at the local Humane Society. His car couldn't park in the muddy median. So he and my husband had to wait for the traffic to slow down and carry the poor pup across the interstate. We had to continue our trip home but the sheriff was kind enough to call me with an update.
The dog was taken to the Natchitoches Humane Society. One of their volunteers has been very kind to keep me updated. They named him Highway, at my husband's request. They said Highway is being very sweet despite his pain. Highway has a broken pelvis and severely dislocated hip. They anticipate he will need to be kept at a vet for several days following the surgery. The vet will charge them for boarding. This is clearly a very small town with limited resources but wonderful people. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!
