Not sure if this has been posted yet...but holy crap.. What is the handler thinking! I could tell immediately that the dog was uncomfortable. I wonder how much training he has handling dogs. He should have never had that guy so close if he didn't know the dog. I would like to here other thoughts

And he said that the dog was doing "great" ......I don't think so. He had tension on the leash from the beginning.

The dog was leaning "back", licking his lips, and his ears were back.... the reporter was obviously not a dog person. All signs of "Beware of the dog". lol

The poor dog shows sign so discomfort and displeasure the whole time the man is leaning down over him, patting him fairly hard on the top of the head. The dog looks away several time, tried to shrink back away from the reporter. Finally gives a warning lunge, not a real bite. He never closed his mouth, and people are not usually faster then dogs. So i take it he never meant a full blown attack. Just a quick "Get the hell away from me"
Reporters must be really dumb because i've several of them get bit trying to force themselves on strange dogs.

Clearly all he warning signs before the actual bite were there (lip licking, whale eyes, backing away, looking away, ducking while being petted ....) Besides that I think the officer was in no position to put his NEW partner in this kind of situation. He said he still was learning the dog, therfore the trust wasnt established yet. The dog was basically cornered between two guys he didnt trust. Poor thing was so confused about what to do, he gave all the signs he could and none of them understood him. Instinct took over.

I'm far from an expert and I could see the signs right away. One thing I was wondering, towards the end of the video the officer says that he is the pack leader and the dog is second in command and if you come up to the dog and tower over it, the dog will see that as an act of aggression and will react. Wouldn't that indicate that the officer is in fact not the pack leader, the dog does not trust the handler, and the dog is reacting on its own. Shouldn't a trained police dog have a more solid nerve base to be able to handle someone leaning over it and not react like that.
