Nice post!

IMO...people that are inexperienced and people that expect to much out of there pup at a early age can end up making life changing mistakes as far as the pup goes.  The breeder can only do so much.  He or she breeds a good sound litter and they have a puppy program that starts all of the exposure that you would expect a pup to get.  Now when the new owners pick up their new pup a good breeder probably should explain how delicate the pup is and how it is still developing.  And that you may not want to put it in a situation where it could hurt itself.  limit its jumping all of that fun stuff.  You basically want to prevent injury.  Now you also have the part where the dog has to continue the socialization process.  if all of these things are not done and months down the rode the owners of the pup are like.....my dog is scared of cars but you didn't continue to expose your pup.  its your fault.  If your pup is 9 months old and you have had it jumping over walls all day every day just to show him off and you don't give him breaks and he ends up limping and you have created a injury...that is your fault.  But if you have a genetic issue.  something that is not preventable.  Than the breeder should take care of it.

I don't like to look at it from a stand point of "THINGS" I shouldn't do.  as much as I try and focus and "THINGS"  that I should do.  There are things that you just cant stop.  I have been on this board more times than I can count worried about my dog because he injured himself.  they are clumsy as pups and if you have a pup that is curious about everything which I hope that he is he will try and get into everything and conquer everything.  When it comes to slick floors....most people want their pup at least exposed to slick floors so that they do not develop issues with being on it.  Now as to how much exposure is to much is beyond me.

I've never worried about the laundry list of things that people say puppies shouldn't do and have never had any issues.  I see no reason to worry about what type of surface my pup walks on nor do I see the need for any type of pad or bed in the crate where he sleeps.  With the exception of jumping in and (especially) out of the back of my truck, I just let them be puppies.

Seems to me that Common Sense is just something that's just lost...Where did it go? And why did it go?

I do not use anything inside the kennel either.  All he will do is destroy it.  HAHATongue Smile

The only thing I would worry about with any hard flooring
is that if a puppy started a habit of running upstairs or
jumping up on a table etc, and jumping off. The shock to
its joints from  landing wouldn't be good, so I would stop
that !  Otherwise, agree with the others,  no point in too
many Dos & Donts, use common sense about things.

Wouldn't take too much notice of people posting that
everything wrong with their dog is the breeders fault;
it often isn't, any more than the owner having been
neglectful.    Shit sometimes happens.
