My 6mo old GSD Jax has th same issue with loose stool. His tests all came back negative. He does not get human food at all. We have him on Blue Buffalo Puppy Chicken and Rice with a scoop of canned BB Puppy Chicken and rice. He received Blue Buffalo Treats and other natual treats but his bed time snack is puparoni stix. At least once a day he has very loose stool to the point it is like mush. We have tried cutting out certain treats, to see if that is the issue and doesn't seem to matter. I know GSD are pron to having stomach issues and loose stool but I can't imagine this being good for him. He does not seem to be in discomfort and he can control when he has to go so that is good but if anyone has suggestions on what to do/try please let me know.

What tests were run and what were the results?  specifically .  there are many knowledgeable people ont his forum, but they have to have more specific info to even try to give you suggestions.  how much and how often is he fed?

Cut out all treats and try some plain yogurt. I feed all raw meat diet and have no more problems.
If all checks out at vet OK, then I would find a diet that will work for him.
Again, hard to guess with little info. Best of luck to you two. Take Care

is this new or has he always had loose stool?  how much does he eat, cups/day? etc?  give us more detail.

One thing for sure is I would not give him pup peroni stix, look at what's in it...Beef, Meat by-products, Soy Grits, Sugar, Liver, Salt, Propylene Glycol, Garlic Powder, Caramel Color, Natural Smoke Flavor, Potassium Sorbate (used as a preservative), Sodium Nitrite (for color retention), Red 40, BHA (used as a preservative), Onion Extract.

No treats for now, no canned food. Watch the amount you are feeding him. At least go by the bag if he is at his correct weight.

Probably could be on the large breed, not the regular puppy. Be aware of what goes in his mouth which should be nothing but his food. Use some of his food for training treats and deduct it from a meal so he doesn't get extra.
Feed twice a day.

Common reason for this is over feeding, using canned food and too many treats that are nothing but junk.

See how that works.

Good Luck

If none of the above works, try getting rid of the rice by going to a grain free food and if you still have issues, consider a food with a different protein source.  Good luck!

Hello,,

I would start by rechecking with another giardia test just to be safe,,

I would also start a Probiotic to help improve digestive health..http://www.amazon.com/Vet-Solutions-Pro-Biolac-Puppies-400/dp/B002QM4O9S  This was recommended by my vet. I give my male a scoop or two mixed with a small bit of warm water twice a day with his kibble. He loves it..

I would consider changing to a food like Acana "Wild Prairie"..http://www.acana.com/products/regionals/wild-prairie-0 I was feeding Orijen and my holistic vet recommended feeding this "sister" brand instead. My male has done well on this grain free kibble..

**Always make a food change very gradually by mixing small amounts with the current kibble over a week or two..

Good Luck..

Coccidiosis and Giardia are not always easy to detect and sometimes worms can play hide and seek too.
I would ask your vet to prescribe for both of these one after the other.

Albon is also an antibiotic, so if your pup has a minimal infection it could clear it up.
Panacure take care of both Giardia and worms if given for 5 days and is very safe.

Both must be adminstered in 21 days, to ensure all the nasty hatchlings are killed too.

Does he have the loose poop after alot of exercise?

Sometimes dogs have intermittent unformed stools when they eat too much. If you rule out other things suggested here, you may want to reduce the amount he gets at each feeding to see if it helps. Good luck.

BTW most of us use tiny pieces of pupperonis at class as training rewards; so far no problems other than some don't like them.
