So I'm really big into training and titling my own dogs. Right now my "main man" is a dog I've had since 7 weeks (he's 4 years old) and he is breed surveyed and titled in half a dozen things besides SchH. I still actively train him, compete in flyball tournaments regularly (monthly) and intend to continue to do so. I did not train and title him just so I could breed him or make stud fees. For whatever reason I prefer male dogs and will likely always have male dogs, so I've never considered getting into breeding myself. I have a few people interested in using my dog for some upcoming litters. There is one litter in particular I'm kind of excited about and have agreed with the breeder for me to keep back a male puppy for myself. What I'm wondering is, say the male puppy turns out to be my kind of dog and I go on to train and title him, would he be considered a "BHOT" dog, or not because I didn't own the female when the litter was bred? I don't really care either way (it will not change my decision about the breeding or obtaining the puppy) I was just curious. I think being BHOT with a SchH3 KKL dog is a very enviable accomplishment (working or show lines I don't care, I've owned both and will continue to own both).

Unless you're listed on the paperwork as a co-breeder, then no, the resulting puppy wouldn't be consider BHOT just because your stud sired the litter.
But there's certainly no reason you couldn't be the co-breeder for that litter....it's done all the time for just that reason--so the dog can be entered in Bred-By-Exhibitor classes, for example, in the AKC breed ring...

Hexe, thanks! Makes sense! I suppose I can ask but it really doesn't matter, it would just be a cool accomplishment since I don't foresee owning females and doing breedings myself.

usually the owner of the female is the owner and breeder of the litter - no matter the stud dog used. So, no you would not be considered the breeder of the pup if you kept one. UNless as Hexe says, you co-bred and owned the litter.
