Hi all, I was looking at a litter that has VA-Waiko vom Schaumbergerland, Sch 3/Kkl1 as the sire of both sire and dam of the pups, so making it a very close breeding of a half-brother to half-sister. What are your comments on such a close breeding?  To me that's an awfully close up breeding, but know it's done by others.  Would love to hear comments both pro and con in such a breeding. Thanks in advance, and hope all have a wonderful and safe New Years!

Too Close.  3-2 minimum.  Even in that scenario should be a litter the breeder keeps all for himself in the event of genetic backlash as an ethical responsibility to the breed.

Waiko is a very nice dog, one of my favorites. However, I'm not sure I would buy this puppy unless I could get a lot more information about Waiko and the dam, their siblings, parents, etc. Waiko was bred and whelped in Germany so I'm not sure how much anyone here even knows about his family. Ask the dam's owner why he/she felt this would be a good breeding, that may give you the answer you are looking for. Most breeding GSL's have a conniption when the word linebreeding in even mentioned, so I have to think there was a specific reason this breeding was done in the first place?

BTW I can't find that pedigree. I assume the dam has certifed clear hips and elbows at the minimum.

@Blitzen, sorry just search Selina, it will pull up the pedigree.  The breeder said she bought the bitch already bred, so claims she didn't have anything to do with it?? But she owns the sire, so I don't see how that could have happened? How would your stud dog breed a bitch, and you have no control over it? Then you buy her, and advertise the pups. No I just found out neither parent is OFA or DM tested, which is why she's selling them for $800, "cheap" she claims!  Quite weird to me. I had to pass.

@Sitasmom, that is a very old website, my new website, with the dogs I have now, is www.starviewkennel.com   All my dogs are OFA'ED, A stamped or PenHip'ed and DM tested. All have at least one conformation championship title, most have two.  But I don't know why you're posting my info, this isn't about me?  The title is about whether this is a good breeding by someone else.

Does Randy Brent know about this? I would pass too.

I don't know, I just ran across the ad and inquired because I like Waiko.  see at http://www.anaworkingdogs.wix.com/puppies   Just wondered what people here thought about such a close breeding, personally I'd not do one that close but wanted others opinions.  thanks
