how do breeders weed out customers like this one? Is certain paperwork filled out to help the breeder get dog back in case customer turns out to be a nut-case?

Just took a look at Mell´s  facebook account.

Sounds like she is waiting desperately for January, 7., when she has a date with a specialist. The vet refused to make an earlier date for her.
She really seems to love her dog and wants to try everything possible.
He is on pain meds, though.

To Joanro: I read the stuff about the home owner´s association. She doesn´t seem to be in trouble, she only wrote, that the "real danger" are the small dogs, and if her German Shepherds would behave like them, she would get problems only because her dogs are Shepherds.

BahCan: She wasn´t begging for money. She only was mad about the insurance, that won´t pay for inherited spine desease. She says, they only would pay after an accident

I really don´t want to judge in this case.

Susie....I didn't say anything about begging for money, I said she was researching in how to come up with money to pay for treatment, and as this spinal condition was first bought up by her Six weeks ago and still nothing has been done, I said that probably explains why the dog is still suffering, because she doesn't have the money to pay for it and rather than do the right thing she  has been letting the dog suffer.

Okay, BahCan, I misunderstood.
After all, she seems to care, she sounds desperate, she will pay for treatment, she IS paying for meds, she is angry, because she has to wait that long.
Summarized, she wants to try everything possible.
I don´t know, if I would do that at this point. Maybe I would PTS, but we don´t know enough about the condition of her dog.

Gusmanda, paper work probably will not make any difference. Once a person buys a dog they own it. It's dificult to weed out a nut case, as they can be very good at deceit.

Susie, I didn't say she was in trouble. Unless I misunderstood, she was complaining about the HOA complaining about GSDs and not the little dogs in the building.

Mellmell,
If you need assistance in raising the funds to have surgery done on the dog,
just ask here. People might surprise you!

Why is he constantly wearing a prong collar? He sure doesnt need that to add to his misery and surely doesnt need it if he cant walk!
I suppose its a case of seeing what happens on 7th.  Poor lad.

"inherited spine disease" ? She said on her face book page on November 19th, " My male GSD has a lumbar spine injury and have an appt next week at a specialist but the vet said he will need surgery at a cost of Approx $6k-$10k. The specialist will advise me if it is worth it and what his quality of life will be.........."

That's over a month ago.

Has a proper dx of the spinal problem been made for it to have been deemed inherited? From the description of it being the spine of a 14 yr old dog that would say spondylosis to me, but no specific 'condition' seems to have been mentioned. Also I had a dog with spondylosis and she didnt present like this.
