We never seen to see solid black saddles on the bitches these days, where have they gone ?

It seems the WGSL are often lacking in pigment. My boy often gets comments on his color and pigment because he has a fuller black mask and a completely black saddle. He had a lot of black, was basically a blanket black until he was over a year old.

Is this what you meant? This is a bitch we imported for some friends a few years ago. We were pleasantly surprised with her pigment. She is even darker in person.
We have never had any of the highline dogs so this was a first for us.

I can't find the article, but I read somewhere, that it was suggested that the breeding for the super red color was fading the pigment (black) on these dogs, thats why you see alot of small masks and faded saddles.
but there are plenty of dogs around who still have great pigment, just look at Andruscha (sp?) v noort.

It seems that fading saddles are acceptable in bitches but not males, bitches do tend to lose pigment down the back as they age, but why is it deemed acceptable and why do we only really see it in bitches?

nuetered males can also get the bitch stripe

by Liesjers on 05 November 2010 - 12:11
I see it in males too, lots of bitch stripes, "salt and pepper" behind the withers, or faded/disappearing saddles. Kwantum Klostermoor or Dux della Valcuvia, for example.
My showline male. His mother has a bitch stripe but she is extremely red. His father has very rich color and pigment, full saddle and very dark mask.

No stripe, just a little "salt and pepper" up on his neck

So far everyone of the pics shown, as nice as the dogs are have broken over the withers, it's almost impossible to see bitches with full black and it's also seen in many males too, Blanket black is a different coat colour marking imo, would love to see solid black saddles in both bitches and males, maybe this is something that should be concidered, i know it's often said colour is of no importance but obviously it is something that should be taken into concideration, we have rich red with seems to dissepate the black, and as dark as the pups are born by the time they mature the colour is starting to be lost :)
