My four month old girlie is having a tough time putting on weight.  She is eating raw chicken and Kirkland.  Mostly Kirkland kibble with 2 or 3 meals a week substituted with chicken instead.  I will admit though I haven't been doing chicken as much in the last bit as I was doing when she first came home.

She is quite thin, but still energetic, eyes are sparkly, coat is coming in beautifully and the happiest dog I have EVER owned.  Just wondering how many or how much of the silk balls I should feed her?  She's been seeing the vet as part of her routine puppy vaccinations and vet says she is healthy.

She is 4 months and approximately 25lbs, maybe a bit more now.  I can easily feel all ribs and her hip bones.  She doesn't look to thin until she comes in wet, then it is very apparent that she needs to gain a few pounds.  I'm thinking between 5 and 10 over the next 4-6 weeks or so....does that sound okay?

Thanks in advance

Edited to add

Then I have the flipside, there is Ace who is now 5 months old, almost 6 months old, and he is taller than my 2 year old female, and solid at 75-ish pounds.  LOL.  Two dogs.....SOOOOO different.

silk or satin balls would be a good supplemant to gain some  weight! I use them now and then when we track! My girl gobbles em up and her stools are still firm and small!  But the gaining weight is predicated upon  the amount of fat in the diet!Silk balls are loaded with fat(good fat)

Sweet thanks. I was able to find recipes but not how much to feed. Much appreciated.

Is she skinny or just lean?, my girl was very lean and dry at this age, but it could be the fact that that is her make up, have you got a pic you could post

Fat and  fast growing  dogs -> increased probability of bad hips.

Ace welcome to the club..
I also posted on general Forum "Normal or Too Small" my female is 7 months and is only 44 pounds she was 19 pounds at 3 months and 22pounds  at 4 months...you can see all her ribs...
few people posted good suggestions and advices....i am trying out few things also, she is on the same diet as yours right now except she is on turkey instead of chicken...same issue..way too skinny...
if you find something that works, please let me know i will try it also. :)

Thanks.

i had girls at show weight of 48, 57 and 58 lbs.  Not skinny just beautiful and healthy.   the one at 48 was at the vet the other day at 54 lbs in her ripe old age of 12.

medium size is a very good size for the dog too.

She is skinny.    She is not lean.  I've had a number of GSDs and she is unusually skinny, and getting skinnier.  My fingers now fit in the indent between her rib bones.  I have a male who is lean and thin but she is more than just thin.

Once my huisband gets home I will take a photo.  Though she is longer coated and still has her puppy fluff.  You can't really tell just how thin she is when she is dry, but when she comes out of the rain she looks awful....wait, I should be clear, she is BEAUTIFUL...gorgeous dog, and I love her to the moon and back.  She just looks too skinny.

I haven't done the silk balls yet, hubby will grab the stuff while he is out right now and I will make them tonight.

She is definitely a smaller female, and I get that.  My other female is on the smaller side as well.  It isn't about her height or size in regard to her age.

She is 33lbs.  I can't get a good standing measure on her, but in a sit she is 25" (not including ears) to the top of her head from the floor.  When she is in a stand and I look at her from above, her skinniness is evident, and when she is wet she just looks pittiful.  She was born June 27th, 2010.

Here is my girls pedigree.  I will admit I don't know a lot about the size and build of the dogs in her pedigree, if anyone knows perhaps they could inform me.  Perhaps she is just genetically thin??  She is the first GSD I have had with show lines, so it could just be a build I am not familiar with.  My others in the past and my 2 other current GSDs are Working lines and are structurally very different than Sanjanna is.  City, her mom doesn't look like she is a large dog either, so I am not expcting her to mature at much more than 70lbs if that even.

Prager I am all about slow growth for German Shepherds, I've made sure not to let any of my dogs grow too fast, (although you would never know with my male that I have, he can't seem to stop growing).  Neither of my pups are on puppy food, never were.
