Thank you Gustav. My biggest problem with this whole situation is that they stopped all communication and did not respond to my voicemail or emails. It would not have gotten to this point if they had simply communicated with me and let me know what was going on. Instead they avoided me which screams that something isn't right!

I cannot imagine that under normal conditions - maybe not after all of this - that Bob would not be more than willing to have someone over.  I am planning on a trip to his place shortly.  If it is the dog I am thinking of both parents are owned by Bob.  You drive there look at the dog, meet parents if the sire is there - many times he is not and decide to buy the dog, hand over the cash, sign the contract and take your dog home - easy.

I really do not understand why the OP did not just drive up to Bob's from KY to pick the dog up in the first place, it is only a 6 hour drive at the most.  I am in Mich and have made trips to West Virginia, TN & TX to pick up dogs.

The simple answer is that my husband is deployed and I work full time as well as having the dogs. Bob was told all of this from the very beginning and that a 12 hour round trip drive was just not possible for me at this time. We came to an agreement on delivery before the deposit was sent.

If I were this breeder, I would return back the lady's deposit.  Why hang onto something that does not belong to you, especially when you already have the dog in question, in your possession ? Give it up and move on.

I've always been ashamed of people who draw conclusions without knowing the story...To air the story is adding fuel to the fire...But since I've been called a CROOK...I think I will defend myself against someone who seems to be a CRAZY person...And seems to have a history of calling Local Law Enforcement and Animal Control on others...

This person...Katy Lewis...wanted to buy a 2 year old male that I have (German Shepherd)...I was selling him for $500...and told her it's as a pet and not for Working...She wanted to use him for breeding...Which I also informed her that he'd never been bred before...

From the beginning she didn't want to come and pick him up...but wanted me to meet her hours from my home to deliver the dog...and then said "what kind of breeder are you that won't deliver your dog"...And that I must not want to sell the dog very much...She said she didn't have time to drive all the way to pick him up and didn't have anyone that would do it for her...(I guess she has NO friends or people in the dog world that would help her...I wonder why...!)

Then it so happens that I was going to be traveling thru Kentucky and told her that I'd deliver the dog for $100... ... ...Before the date that I was supposed to bring the dog I had a medical problem and couldn't drive...I informed her of this and offered her her deposit back...of which she responded...NO...Hold it and maybe you can deliver the dog to Dayton, Oh to a dog show she was going to...I never heard from her or got an e-mail or anything up until it was almost time to bring the dog...All this time I was trying to find someone that could drive me to deliver her the dog...When I finally secured someone that could help me...I figured out how far it would be and how much time it would take to travel to Dayton...It was at least 3 1/2 hrs each way and I think 200 miles...(one way)...So when I wrote her and told her that I had found someone to bring the dog for her and that it would take such and such amount of time and how far it was...and told her that I think $200 delivery fee would be fair...So she wrote me back and said that she'd e-mailed me and told me that she wasn't going to the dog show and she wouldn't pay anymore then what we'd agreed to previously...

Well I didn't break the contract (our agreement) because I offered her her deposit back...she's the one that suggested to bring the dog to Dayton...of which I found someone to help and then offered her a price for doing so...She didn't like that either...Apparently she's the one that broke the offer of bringing the dog to Dayton to meet her....

Some people you just can't Help...and really makes you lose confidence in people on the whole...

When people...particularly ones that seem to be a bit CRAZY...start threatening you and then air her dirty laundry out in public it doesn't make you feel like helping them now does it...

I DON'T like airing private dealings out in public but since I have been drawn into this I feel that I should tell my entire story...

This person...Katy Lewis...Who lives in Kentucky should be avoided at all costs...She is absolutely CRAZY...And I'm very glad that she didn't get one of my dogs...I like my dogs to go to people who'll not only take good care of them but that will enjoy them...I think it's worked out for the best...

And since Katy Lewis says she's gotten another dog...I hope she's happy with him/her...and takes good care of them...

And I have never had to call police or animal control prior to this situation.

by khlewis on 30 November 2012 - 15:11

I never in any way shape or form asked you to keep the deposit.
