I see alot of ads that state "repeat breeding" breeders doing repeat breedings just because the first one was very good. What are the chances of a repeat breeding being the same quality as the first?

In my limited experience it is never 100% the same. But again, my experience with this is limited. As far as "normmal" puppies are concerned, then 100% repeatable is reasonably correct. It's that occassional superstar or two that you sometimes have that is hard to repeat. All that said, I realize that others may have better results, and possibly because of dogs that are closer in phenotype and reproduce themselves better. Bob-O

bob, that is what i have heard also. the exceptionally good litters very rarely can be repeated. i had heard that wilhendorf kennels tried a number of times to repeat the L-litter (lars, lussi) but were not successful. i have heard this of others as well. i'm just guessing, ofcourse, but i would think the age and health of the dam would have something to do with it.......ages 3-5 being the desireable years.

It would be reasonable to presume that Age, Environment, Time of Year, Conseption Condition, Feed quality, and Stress levels would all play a role in the success of "repeat breedings" That's just my thoughts on it.

the answer to this is very simple if it is an outcross combination , the chances of getting identical results are minimal the more line/inbreeding will be in this combination , the higher the chances are to repeat the same quality

mmmmm. and that is probably very true, too.

I agree with duke1965. Close linbreeding and even the occasional inbreeding is widely accepted in most breeds other than GSD's. I've never quite been able to understand that.

LOL, I meant I've never been able to understand why linbreeding and inbreeding is condemned by so many with GSD's. If done carefully it can produce some excellent results.

cause most people believe the fairytailes that outcrossing will bring healtier dogs outcrossing is like shooting hail(hope this is the right english word) , good chance on one hit , but many missing the target

also in line/inbreeding I dont believe in repeatbreeding , even with higher chances of succes , because it narrows down your future possabilities see what your missing in your first combination and find a breeding partner who is strong on that point , select your pups who are strong on that point and so create your own possible future breeding material to set up a linebreeding program
