What does that mean? Are high numbers good or low numbers?

Thanks,
Sara

ZW number having Low value is Preffered for breeding

ZW NUMBER IS NOTHING BUT A BREED ASSESSMENT VALUE NUMBER WHICH IS USUALLY GIVEN FOR SV REGISTERED DOGS...

IT IS NOT NECESSARY THAT THE ZW VALUE SHOULD BE SAME FOR THE DOG,IT KEEPS CHANGING ON PAR TO THE TYPE OF PROGENY HE PRODUCES...

IT IS GENERALLY LESS FOR A GOOD DOG...

FOR EG:- SIRE = 100 ZW
DAM = 90 ZW
ZW FOR THE PUPPY IS = (100 + 90)/2 = 95.
THE ZW FOR THIS YEAR VA1 OBER VON BADBOLL IS 82.

i have seen a ZW # low  as 65 and as high as 125 with passing hips. Zw# is only on the Hips and it has alot to do not only what they are producing , but also take into account   what mother/ father aunts and uncles  are producing too. and 100 is the avarge and any thing under that is an improvement, so the lower the better.. its a good tool to use when choseing  breeding partners

Ok, thanks but I am STILL confused!

What is an average number range for a very high quality ZW score? 10-50. Is 50 average? Is 75 average? What is a "good" number?

So, the ZW number changes based on progeny. But, what if a sire has 200 puppies and only the 100 that have great hips are presented but the other 100 that are not presented have bad hips. How would they factor that in?

Thanks,
Sara

ZW numbers in the high 60's low 70's would be excellent scores, I haven't heard of them going lower than that, although I do remember a thread not too long ago that gave actual numbers.

No one is going to submit bad hip scores so they wouldn't factor in.

http://www.vanerp.net/ilse/GSDINFO/Breed%20value%20and%20the%20GSD.htm#The%20HD%20Program%20of%20the%20SV

The above link explains the HD-ZW pretty well in English.

You can look up the ZW for dogs that are entered into the SV database if you know the SZ registration number or by name here:
http://www.schaeferhund.de/site/index.php?id=688  Go to the drop down box and choose "SZ-Nummer" and enter just the numbers in the box.  For example, one of my females is China, with reg. number SZ2159254.   You would enter just the 2159254 in the box and get her ZW number (which is 67...try it and see if it works for you).  You can also enter dogs by name or enter a kennel name and see all dogs under that kennel name.  You must use the EXACT spelling when you search by names, though, or it won't show up.

Diane
