The wedge between the showline and the working side began with the rejection of grey, black and bicolours by Hermann Martin. Not everyone agreed with this change but the power of the President was such that the judges fell into line. Anyone that disagreed with the President were cast aside. The divide between the two sides has widened over the years. What we see today is not so much from good breeding practice but more to the type that is more saleable at top prices. Mackenzie

100% agree.

The vivid black and red of today's show dogs reminds me of someone who was an avid SL supporter many years ago who would always say that she was not a fan of what she termed 'brightly coloured' dogs (in a most disparaging tone). I don't know if she is even still alive, but often her phrase comes into my mind and I wonder what she would make of it all now that you see little else.

Allanf  - very important that you maintain a level of common sense, balance and genetic fact to your comments. I can understand the reticence of some people using Harley but those who do use him will on the whole be very aware of his fathers  elbow status and they will only mate bitches to him who have a very good elbow score and in their parentage have a history of good elbow scores. This will in turn provide statistics that will in all probability show an acceptable bottom line result from him. This is what the various schemes are all about.
Very important that people don't allow the emotion of the attempt at fraud to color their views toward Harley the dog. What has been done here is appalling and like everyone else I hope the SV do the right thing in regard to nailing the perpetrator/s.

Personally speaking, I would not use Harley in a mating or any other male whose parent failed to obtain a satisfactory ED/HD score.   In this instance with Harley is the added problem of the fraud and experience has taught me to stay as far away as possible.  In any event why run the risk of transmission, it's a crazy decision.  You never know what else may be in the background.

Perhaps the SV could make it mandatory that all litter mates  are X-rayed then apply an average as well as an individual result to all in the litter, cherry picking the best isn't working.

Looks like we are all done with this thread now. Mackenzie

Paulo, People should stop trying to undermine the best breed dog club on this planet the S.V.
Pherhaps the U.K.folk should start a thread on the failings of the UK/K.C. who allowing dogs to be bred from with NO HIP OR ELBOW STATUS
a case of put your own house in order first.

'Opa' LOL

The thread was started about the SV, hence the title and the content. If you feel that strongly about the UK KC, why don't you start a thread about it and it's failings? If 'UK folk' had wanted to start one...well they would have done wouldn't they? In the meantime THIS thread is about the SV.

I agree this thread is done until we such time as we hear what is ultimately revealed about the perpetrators of the fraud and what penalties/sanctions if any are imposed.

allanf - I say this with the utmost respect and regard - I have no idea how long you have been involved in the sport but I suspect that it's not been a long time. Forgive my presumption, but at some point and I get the feeling it will be many years from now, you will come to accept that what I have said in my post of 15th February will not be too far from reality. It is very important that you and others do not allow emotions and a desire for retribution to cause you to over react and colour your views on Harley the dog. The emotion that there should be punishment is understandable and warranted and I share that emotion but keep that emotion in balance and in context with the realities of basic genetics and the very influential effect of breeders using the dog with what ironically is now more accurate knowledge and I say ironically because there are matters relating to dogs that had a far greater influence than Harley could ever have that unfortunately were not made public.
