I have a 10 month old female german shepherd who is now 52 pounds. When she was 8 months old she pretty much stopped growing and stopped eating her Blue Buffalo large breed puppy food, so I switched her to Blue Buffalo adult large breed food. She loves that food now and eats two cups twice a day. Do you think that I switched her too early and that is why she could be small and not growing much? If so, any adice on whether I should try the puppy food again since she is so young? Thank you.

Genetic's determine a dogs size, puppy food will get them there quicker than adult food. I don't know how much excercise your pup get's or what she looks like, but 4 cups of food a day may be to much for a 52 lbs dog. Feeding a dog more won't make them grow any larger they will just gain weight. I feed my 50lbs female 2.5 cups a day and she's very active.

Female GSDs are unlikely to gain much height after 8th month, even six months.

My GSDs grew about 0.5 inches from sixth months to adult.

They fill up after 8-9 months and gain 5-10 pounds after that.

I never use "large breed" puppy food. It is just a marketing tool. When you feed a rich puppy food and measure the mount precisely enough and watch a pups weight closely, you will not overfeed. GSD pups should not be fed free-choice. If you don't feed free choice you don't need large breed puppy food; if you do, large breed puppy food won't help much.

I think you have been feeding correctly and things are as they should be.

She likely will mature at about  60 pounds.

My dog is almost 17 mos.old and weighs 77 lbs, was told not let him get over  80 lbs.  He looks thin in a way but my vet said he was just fine for his age and  I only want what's best for him for him to feel good and live a happy life. That' s what I'm trying to do with my big boy.
