One of many responses:

Hi David,

Well, I listened to the broadcast and from what I heard this woman from the Kennel Club say doesn't appear to have an argument that holds water. Her sole or main reason to continue to include inferior breeding is based upon keeping available a wider gene pool. This is ludicrous if in doing so you are inbreeding genetic diseases. In the wild, which is where all these animals originate, the weak, mal-formed or genetically deficient are killed by the strong; or failing that they do not survive long enough to breed; thus eradicating the problems quite naturally. That is Nature's way of dealing with genetic malfunction. To purposely keep genetic disease within a gene pool, providing ( I believe these were her words) it does not cause too much suffering to the animal, is in my book both cruel and amoral. How does she know how much the animal suffers? The animal psyche differs widely from the human; what we may consider an inconvenience could, to them, be the most horrendous drawback. Why inflict pain in any shape or form on an animal? To do so willingly is disgraceful. Also, how does she know which diseases are from recessive genes? Governments are spending millions of pounds on medical research in attempts to eradicate genetic disease yet here she is more or less saying it is okay to inflict them upon dogs merely because we can and she says so! Absolutely abhorrent!
Your input was excellent, as was the lady with the King Charles Spaniels.

Best regards, Sheila

It has been suggested that I am the "Sheila" that made this reply to Mr Payne. I am NOT.
