I don't have an anxious dog, but I'm curious about a product I just heard about. Apparently, some people are claiming that anxious dogs are calmed greatly by wearing a close-fitting vest. There is a product called a Thunder vest, I think, and I don't know its design or fabric. Anybody have an experience with this idea or product? Could this work, and if so, how?

I have heard that it works. I thought about buying one which are not that costly just to have on hand. The person/s live in the mideast with lots of thunder stoms.

I guess it works for some and not others. From the few people I know who have tried it, it didn't work. I think it's worth a try though. Who knows?

Try an old tshirt first - tie a knot in it so that it fits snuggly around the body.
They are based on TTouch wraps, and can have a dramatic effect.

We used the Thundershirt with some shelter dogs and it worked! I would recommend it.

Temple Grandin had the original hug idea with her humane cattle slaughterhouse designs. She found that a squeeze gave comfort. Sounds kind of simple that a hug makes us, and them, feel so much better.

The squeeze box is used for autistic children also to help calm them down. Additionally, seat cushions and blankets that are made with sand inside to be heavy are used for austic spectrum children to help them relax and sleep. Temple Grandin saw how the squeeze box worked on cattle and went home and made one for herself. She still uses it daily. The ones used for austic spectrum children have vinyl rollers.

I was told that it only works if you put the vest on well before a storm is due to arrive and before the dog gets anxious. If you wait until the dog already realizes a storm is coming, it won't work. This is just what I was told, though. I've never used one or had need to.
