if you inherited a large sum of money.... If you could purchase any dog (must be alive now) or puppy (working or show), to begin a breeding program which would it be, and why? Dog must have "workability", grips, completely steady nerves, ability to chill, and excellent structure and male. Please don't just give a name but also a reason, genetic and otherwise.

First of all why must it be male? It has always been my understanding from several experts and top breeders that you buy the best bitch you can to start a breeding program. So with that said I have 2 answers, If I were going for DDR lines I would buy a girl from Parchimer Kennels. Why? I think they are are pure DDR lines that have been bred with a sense of what lines go with what and compliment each other as opposed to the dollar bill. If I were to go with straight working lines, I would go with the Stadtfeld dogs. Why? Because I like what I have seen--my boy's mother was an Etzel granddaughter and I just loved her--looks, build, drive and grips. Also I think for whatever reason they are not used or seen in pedigrees so much as some of the more " popular" lines and I don't know why. People that I have talked to and/or read posts that have those lines seem to really like them. Now this is just my opinion but I think Etzel was one of the most handsome males I have ever seen and what I have learned about him I really liked.

If she wants to start a breeding program she isn't going to do it with a male, and shouldn't she know enough about the breed to pick a dog if she is going to breed them?

Good luck with that. Doesn't sound like she needs to start a breeding program--sounds like she needs to get a mentor and learn a lot more.
