Hi! I guess I am new to the Forum, though I've researched this great site in the past many times for tips, info, etc. Unfortunately, just recently, I lost my GSD to DM, and after the grief, decided to get another. I purchased my new, adult female from Bill Fleischer, as I really was uncertain of a puppy again, and he offered a great price on this dog, and I looked throughout the rescues, without luck, and just happened on his site; I really don't know anything about his organization, but it really seems a lot of people have negative opinions about him. The pedigrees of the Sire/dam of my new dog are outstanding, but then people talk of bait-and-switch. It's really a little unnerving. I wanted a GSD of normal drives, calm, sweet disposition, EVERYTHING my lost dog embodied. We have but one Schutzhund club here, neither me, nor my dog were made to feel welcome, yet I would have LOVED to experience the pride, and the bonding, that can come from such endeavours. I purchased my last [and first and only, and I'm 52] dog from a thoroughly dis-reputable breeder [not my words, others], and I still aquired the most loving, loyal animal I could have imagined. I hope that, even through all of the "dissing" of this man, the same will hold true. However, as we have not even received the dog yet, this banter has indeed made me nervous. Thanks much for the chance to post here.

Sorry to hear you had to go through the loss of your dog due to DM Has you new dog been DNA tested for DM? Or her parents? I've no personal experience with Fleischerheim so no opinion to offer, thought I'd ask about the DM though since you've been through that before.

think about it another way, if you were looking to buy a car for example, would you go to a dealer who is renowned for selling overly expensive cars, who's had mixed reviews, when you know you can get the same car, if not better, at a fraction of the price elswhere by other experienced dealers would you shop around?
I think i would!!

Having said that, you could go to the worst seller ever known and come out with your dream dog if that particular dog is what your looking for so, as long as your happy...your dog will have its own personality, drives, character, responsiveness and his own mind regardless of who is selling the dog and the amount he or she want for it.

Any prominent breeder will have some people who talk smack about him, probably even moreso when those people are envious of that person's means to import some of the top dogs in the world to use in his breeding program.  I've never bought a dog from Bill but did discuss the potential use of one of his stud dogs with him several years ago and got the sense that he was truthful about the relative merits and faults of the dog in question and that he was trustworthy.  Can you get a similar dog from someone else for less money?  Who knows but if you're comfortable with the price he is asking for the particular dog you are buying, I think you'll do fine.

 JamesGSD....

At this point it appears to be too late to be worrying about it now...I would be focusing on getting ready for your new female...: )   ...very exciting!!!

There are so many opinions about breeders/bloodlines. Anyone, that is anybody, is going to have people talking about them...

Welcome, and post some pics when you get them....Enjoy!!!

Try to hold your judgement until you get your new girl. :-) I have spoken to Bill on several occasions and found him to be pleasant to deal with. Maybe share the pedigree of your new girl? How exciting for you! Congrats! Theresa

Your pup is going to be a giant hunk of shit,

Your breeder is a giant hunk of shit,

Your pup is going to be all that you ever wanted,

Your breeder is the most ethical breeder on the planet, a saint.

It will all be somewhere inbetween there. HA HA !

Hope you get a nice dog. I have no idea who the guy is, just for the whiney people on here.
