HUH???  Don't hand me that "Just for fun" drivel.  You have no idea how I worried over that female of yours.  How is the infection?  Please don't say she's gone. That weekend wait-and-see time frame floored me.

LMH:
I did an update a couple of days ago.  I'm still seeping monies on this problem EVERYDAY!
Cultures came in with a variety of bacteria and the doctor prescribed amoxocillin to take care of most of the problem.  Then today as I went in to have the bandages changed he hit me with another problem.  Something called MSAR something along that sound.  A bacteria similar to this flesh eating thing but not as bad. He has a new concoction that he and his collegues have comeup with.  Some kinda meds that I will have to use gloves because 1/5000 has an allergic reaction that can affect the bone.
I have moved from cefelixin, baytril, trimetroprin-sulpha, flagyl, to amoxicillin. Now this new one which I have no idea.
Bottom line is that the toe was amputated because of the aggressive nature of the bacteria moving from one joint in the toe to another.  We did the culture but took time to come back.  Her spirits are high and the hope is that we can catch and fix the problem before it spread to another toe.

Don't get insulted now, lol.  Remember, I don't know you. Are you scrubbing your hands before you clean that wound? Are you keeping that bandage dry?  Using a cone?  Keeping her inside....in the airconditioning?

This heat is a killer.  I see yeast and fungal problems next, lol.  On a more serious note, I hope you're using Nolvasan Skin and Wound Cleanser.  That wound is so raw and sore, it would be my choice.....and very soft Kleenex....not gauze or even paper towels.  Also, bottled water.  We had an E coli scare here in NY recently. Apparently, it was in the water supply and the powers that be advised us to boil all water.

If I sound flippant.....just ignore and know I'm not, lol.  I hope the recently prescribed cocktail does the trick.....but it may take awhile. You want to rant about the vet bills, go right ahead. (lol) I understand only too well.

Ummm, I guess this is a private conversation......but at the risk of being nosey I'll mention that you should be scrubbing your hands AFTER handling that wound as well, if your dog does indeed have MRSA(methcillin resistant staphlococcus aureus). This bacteria is contagious, humans are frequently infected by it, & it is terribly difficult to treat. Go to the pharmacy & pick up a box of latex free gloves to wear when caring for this wound, & keep this dog isolated from other dogs & children. Keep the wound covered, & soiled dressings should be disposed of carefully, to make sure this bacteria is not spread to others. As aggressive as you have said this infection has been, a weekend to wait & watch may be too long a time frame should you see significant changes in the wound or the surrounding tissues. Even in humans who are hospitalized, this bacteria is hard to get rid of. You have a long, tough struggle ahead of you, & I wish you the very best of luck.

LMH:
No insults here so nothing to worry about on this side. I don't touch the wound.  I have been taking here to the vet every day sometimes every other day.  Each one cost me a 50! I'm pretty much tapped out money wise, but I can assure you if it jumped to the next toe, I will put her down.  The vet has been using nolvasan to clean the wound.  Being a vet he has been using gloves.  I became aware of this Msra thing just yesterday.  My grandson has been helping me with her when he gets home before I do. Didn't know there was these nasty bacteria affecting her.  I will stop that today.  I will be the only one doing so.  I'm kinda clean freak constantly washing my hands.  Got the new meds today and he, the vet, did give me a box of latex gloves to handle the meds.  The name I do not remember on this new meds.  Something chloro....n???  So she is now getting the amoxocillin and this new drug.

Jackie:
Now I'm a bit frightened!  My thanks for your help.  See above, my grandson has been helping me with this problem.  Not doing anything other than put her in her crate and on occasion has been taking the plastic bag that I tie to her foot so as not to get the bandage wet.  Well that stops today! I'm doing just like you have suggested as regarding keeping the dogs apart.  I normally do anyway.  Now I'm wondering about her bedding that is in the crate!  Oh boy!

I will let you guys know how things progress.

Thank you.
