Why own purebreed dogs??????? - Page 1

I have always been a fan of dogs since I was a little kid. What I love about them is the specific reasons they were bred. I loved the Bloodhound as a child. Loved the fact that they were bred to be hounds and to this day most have that trait in them. I like to see different groups do things with there dogs that promote those things. I saw on animal planet groups that get together for owners of Newfoundlands. They would do mock excersises  of the dogs jumping in the water to save people. The dogs feel they are doing what they were supposed to do and are well rounded in my book. With the GSD this is done on a larger scale with Sch. and different ring sports as well as herding. In America we dont have a real need to work our dogs but if you own a purebred dog should expect it to do certain things and as owners we should encourage it and honor it.  If not we should just get mutts from the shelter. Nothing against mutts but I enjoy purebreed dogs for a specific reason.
