I've been debating posting this for a long time but another post tonight kind of motivated me to do it.  I'm wondering if anyone has encountered/heard of serious heart defects produced by Nelson vom Frankengold?

I have 2 4 mth old pups from a litter by him who were discovered to have significant heart murmurs at 8 wks.  We waited to see if they'd grow out of it and when they didn't, we had an echocardiogram done to look at the heart.  The vet said there were "significant lesions" of the same type on the hearts of both pups and the blood was flowing in the wrong direction in some areas.  The vet guy who did the echo (not sure what he's called) said they'd never seen anything like it (and these are good vets), and recommended sending it off to a cardiologist.  We did and are awaiting results.  The vets are not optimistic about the prognosis for them and with 2 pups in the same litter with the exact same type of lesion it's certainly congenital (there were also 2 stillborn pups which may or may not be related to this).

I was hesitant to post this because I don't want to ruin any reputations or come across as bashing anyone, it could be one of those freak things that will only happen once.  And I do know it takes two to tango, but Nelson's had a lot of breedings and that makes him the easiest place to start, if this is coming from him then it will be showing up in other litters but it's not the sort of thing that breeders want to share.  PMs would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Are you able to reveal the identity of your female together with her pedigree.  The problem may come from that side of the family.

And the problem COULD, and I say COULD be a birth defect.  Could be from herbacide, pestacide, chlorene, or even something they add to the dog food these days;  the sky is the limit.  Birth defect is more probable.  Just some thoughts.  Nan
