Need a muzzle for training and every day walks. I like this one because he can take treats, pant, drink, and sniff around - but there are no reviews. Any opinions on this? Thanks!

These are just questions for me. But why does your dog need a muzzle for training and when on walks? Also the muzzle pictured...... never seen it before but looking at it too many straps/contact points in my eyes. Top of head, jaws, neck and throat then looks like it's secured to his collar.

in today's crazy world, i don't think its a bad idea at all to use a muzzle on your dog while walking. pretty hard for someone to say they were bitten if the dog is muzzled.
in addition, this video is worth watching all the through:

it is a hassen video dealing with focus, control, obedience, etc while the dog is muzzled. this video really set my mind to reeling about the ways in which a muzzle could be used as a training device. i am not neccessarily a hassen fan, but i was really intrigued by the endless possibilities of muzzle training.

I have since decided that the muzzle I posted will not work for walks, I do like the wire basket muzzle by Leerburg, though. I need to be able to get treats through it. My older wire muzzle has rusted and it's time for a new one.
I like walking my dog through parks and nice areas - and there are people there. However, he is not a friendly dog. I can keep people from petting him, and I can keep him from becoming aggressive, but he is much calmer when he's muzzled. When he's muzzled, he pays absolutely no attention to other people - and it makes our walks better. Without the muzzle, he's constantly searching for who's around us and it gets tiring having to always keep his attention on me. When muzzled, he sniffs all over, bounces when he walks, tail wagging as people pass... he's a wonderful dog, and I want to keep him and everyone else safe. Also, he doesn't wear a muzzle for training, only when working with new trainers until they become friends.
Yes, I KNOW I've done something wrong to make him need a muzzle, YES he's over-protective... I fucked up somewhere along the line - no need to tell me. I'm just a person who wants the best for her beloved German Shepherd. He doesn't do Schutzhund anymore, he's just a big, loving couch potato, who likes to take long walks through scent infested areas with his family, and come home to a nice leather couch.
There.

Can't go wrong with a good ol' Jafco muzzle. They make them in a softer clear plastic now, which I love, you can tell if the dog is baring their teeth and they hurt a bit less if the dog comes up the leash at you.

Melissa, may I commend you on being pro-active on behalf of your dog, and doing what's best for him to keep him safe and alive? Whether you 'f****d up' somewhere that caused him to be overly protective or not is immaterial--the fact that you acknowledge that it is in the best interest of your beloved dog to wear a muzzle whenever there's a possibility he could come in contact with someone outside his 'approved' circle of people is HUGE, and not something that comes easily. You are limited to what factors you can control when you and your boy are out in public, and unfortunately other people are not one of those controllable factors--I've seen too many instances where a person was told, in no uncertain terms, to keep away from someone else's dog and yet persisted in approaching and instigating contact...and of course, if a bite occurs, the dog is always going to carry the blame. Your big guy is never going to be placed in this position because you're protecting him against that.
You are your boy's champion, and a new hero of mine. Well done, good lady, well done.

Don't remember reading anyone saying you did something wrong to make him need a muzzle or reading where someone said you fucked up. If you're directing that hostility my way you can take it back. My Service dog gets muzzled going to the vet; part of the contract and my Czech sometimes gets muzzled in close quarters, say Petsmart, but rarely take her in there.
