Ok, so this had just started happening…

I came out in the morning and Frankie (ridgeback/boxer mix) was chewing on my shoe…I came out took out the shoe, she sat up looking at me, I am waving shoe in front of her saying “No, Frankie, bad girl!” as I am doing that Bailey my 13 month old GSD runs up and bites Frankie in the butt and runs off…I yelled “Bailey leave it, I got it”..
Same evening Frankie (I guess was bored) ripped off my pumpkin off the wine (pumpkin was a size of a soccer ball) and was biting chunks out of it…I came out “Frankie, leave it..” and as I am saying that Bailey runs by and bites Frankie in the butt again and keeps running its like a “run by butt bite”, Frankie turns around to get her but she is long gone…I came over to Frankie, she sits down looking at me Bailey does it again… I didn’t even had time to react…I called Bailey over made her sit than down next to Frankie…I tell Frankie no, tell Bailey "leave it" and walk away..as I walk away I see those two playing Bailey (who can practically walk under Frankie) sticks her head under Frankie pretending to bite her hind feet, Frankie jumps on hind legs and proceeds to hop sideways…typical play time…
This morning I was trying to put Frankies collar on and she kept putting her head down, so I said.. ‘Frankie, LOOK at me” which she did..and sure sh*t once again Bailey did her “run by butt bite”….its not a hard bite, not aggressive bite…it’s a mouth open wide bite that does not close shut..almost like a bite - squeeze…it does not even hurt Frankie because she reacts in surprise, not aggressive because she looks and focuses back on me...at least its not agressive looking....

Now.. WTH is that??? and how do I correct it or should I just let them duke it out? Is it play? Seems like it is..but she only does it when I am correcting Frankie…

I have a feeling its a dominant thing, yet Bailey is very submissive, she usually on the bottom when she plays and she is the first one to roll over during plays even with Frankie...she aproaches my other dogs with her head low, tail wagging...so she is not alpha, never will be...thats why this part does not make sense to me...

I am sure its something obvious that I am just not comprehending...

any ideas?

Is Frankie a new dog?  Didn't know you had a boxer mix.  Could be Bailey is trying to dominate over Frankie and is trying to help you "correct" Frankie's behavior.  My 3 yr old female is the alpha dog and sometimes when I correct one of the others, she thinks she has to put her 2 cents worth in by grabbing their collar and yanking on it.  So, I then correct her.

On the positive note, sounds like Bailey is feeling pretty good after her hip surgery since she is running around and biting Frankie's butt!

It's a pack thing. We run a daycare here and I have to be very careful about disciplining any of the daycare dogs since I have one GSD and my little Lancashire Heeler who think they are my sergeant at arms. If I get on a dogs case I always have to tell those two to back off and usually put them on a platz. If I'm not watching, one of them(usually the little guy first) will pull a butt bite and then stand there waiting to see if I need more assistance.

ggturner....oh yeah..she is up and running more like hopping ..i swear i think the foot (disability) is the mental thing, when she plays she forgets about it and uses it w/o issues...than she remembers and starts hopping on 3 legs...

Frankie is previous house owners dog...she is with me for basic OB and socialization, they are taking her back this summer hopefully in july, she is 5 years old, with treats, some training and correct diet she no longer smells, digs, freaks out when you pick up a broom, and she does not invade your space with her wet nose...she is not the sharpest crayon in a box - she is a low energy, no drive, no brain dog.....if pumpkin looks like a ball than its a ball - kind of dog. But she is as sweet as can be...but she is no push over, not by dogs....

Bailey is a push over..that is why i am surprised that she did that... maybe she is maturing and trying out her "dominant wanna be" on another dog...

Thanks Annette...I guess i will see what happens, i think order of the pack should be determined by the pack..as long as they fall in line after owners...

Sounds like Bailey is letting Frankie know this is "her house" and guests need to behave.

LOL! Ok, Bailey had her surgery, & probably got a little more TLC than usual, so now she is (in her head) the mommy's helper dog. And when mom scolds someone, she's gonna be right there to back up mom! Not hang around in case things get ugly, butt (pun intended!) a quick butt chomp just to reinforce whatever it was mom just said! Which also brings to your attention how Baily is watching your every little move, ready to jump in on your behalf! Gotta love these GSDs, nothing gets by them! I bet Bailey sharpens up that other crayon right quick! LOL! jackie harris

You're right on the button, Jackie Harris.  LF has inevitably raise Baley's rank with all the attention he's been getting post operatively speaking.  Not to worry too much though coz Frankie doesn't seem too bothered with the butt thing anyway lol.

Jyota thinks she's second in command, if I repremand another dog, she thinks she has to back me up. She wants to do the same bite on the run thing......only she bites the other dogs' face.

i know my boys use to bite my girly on the butt. well one day she had enough and turned around and got both of them yiked once and that was it. i usualy let them settle the pack problems if i get in the middle of it they start picking more on the ones who i protect now i dont let them fight or hurt eachother they just play and someone will always try for dominance .

You are merely the distraction in the great "butt biting" game.  I wouldn't read any more into that.
