So my project for the weekend is building my new kennel for my new pup.  I figured in order for me to get more motivated... maybe you guys would show off your setup!  So, here is my "plan"... you have to use your imagination since it doesnt exist yet, but I will post pics when it's done.   I already have a 10x10 kennel, which is currently setup in the garage.  I want my garage back, my better half would like to park in it.  SO my plan is to build a 10x10 deck w/ a 10x8 lean to attached for an "indoor area" to escape the sun/rain/ect.  The lean to will be completely open to the 10x10 kennel/deck.  I plan on building a removable wall so I can enclose the lean-to w/ a doggie door for the winter months.  My backyard is flat, so it will be built on the ground... so no worries about elevation.

You might want to check your local and state laws, many states are going to 150 sf (10'x15') minimum for outside dog kennels.

Even if that were the case, it would techically be 10x18 with the attached lean-to.

In the winter, you're better off with a small dog house with a doggie door that can keep the heat in.

One ahead of you Chaz, gunna have both!  I have two dogloos, one will be inside the lean-to and one will be outside the lean-to.  (attempting to upload very, very crude 5 min MS Paint of my "idea")

BTW, the black and grey one is an attempt to give you an idea of what the interior of the lean-to would be like w/o the wall present.

I also realize the scale is WAY off...

Is the lean-to already built?

by BMartin on 17 June 2011 - 20:06

Not yet, should be done by sunday... hopefully.

One thing that I would always do, is cover the outside kennel. Gives shade and keeps out most of the snow and rain. The reason I asked if the Lean-to was built, is because I would make it 8' at the tall side. That way I can attach a roof over the outside kennel. I'd sink 3 posts with a 2x6 header to hold up the roof on the other end.

YOU GUYS SOUND SO SURE OF WHAT YOU ARE DOING WITH THE KENNEL THING. NOW ME I DON'T KNOW A THING ABOUT BUILDING BUT I COULD CERTAINLY INTERIOR DECORATE THEM AND MAKE BEAUTIFUL FLOWER ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE INSIDE.
