I wonder if its Good news or Bad news:-

Extract from KC site:- Professor Steve Dean has been elected as the new Chairman of the Kennel Club today (June 7th), following a ballot of members of the Kennel Club General Committee.

“I am aware of the scale of some of the challenges that we face but am excited about the opportunities that exist to help us make a real difference for dogs. I look forward to supporting and working with the millions of responsible dog breeders and owners that there are in this country, and to standing shoulder to shoulder with vets and other individuals and organisations, who are dedicated to improving the health and welfare of dogs.”

Professor Dean, who turns 60 in August, is a veterinary surgeon by profession and is currently the Senior Veterinary Surgeon at Crufts each year. He is a breeder, exhibitor and judge of Border Terriers and has been involved in the breed for 30 years. He is currently Chairman of the Southern Border Terrier Club as well as the overall breed health co-ordinator for all seven breed clubs. He is also President of Windsor Dog Show Society.

This is the vet who evicted Starkstrom Lottie and her pensioner owner, Pam Edgington, from Crufts 2010 on the basis that the puppy had"deformed" hindquarters - you all know the story - or search the messageboard for "pensioner evicted"

In my opinion this appointment is very bad news for GSDs in the UK

Agree with you Shirley as in bad news for the KC GSD, but we do have our WUSV BRG up and running and going from strength to strength, so although this appointment might be bad news, maybe just maybe it could turn the tide from the KC shows to the Healthy alternative WUSV BRG shows

I think all sensible people that care about the health, welfare and breedworth of the GSD need not worry about this - we have our own chosen path and its going from stregnth the sooner we have our own system for registation and everything else, the more the KC will see that their plan of attack on the GSD didnt work, and it was only they that were exposed.   Mo.

Penny.   On the contrary, the KC plan of attack on our type GSD is working just how they want it to work. Unless a drastic plan to educate the public happens very soon I fear the KC type GSD will escalate. The public will always follow the KC !.
I agree with Hutch this appointment is very bad news for the GSD !.

yorkjason, you couldn't be more wrong, you write like Andrew Winfrow!

by yorkjason on 12 June 2011 - 11:06

Videx.  Sorry it's  you that couldn't be more wrong, I am purely talking common sense. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion and that is mine.
You know as well as I do how the public think !.

You really need to more fully understand "common sense"! You write somewhat immaturely.

How do you KNOW what the public think?
