Who doesn't enjoy buying new gear for their GSD?

There are many past threads here on where to buy quality leather leashes and collars (eg. http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/bulletins.read?mnr=88419&pagen=2) but most places tend to be in the US (either don't ship to Canada or shipping + duty makes purchases very expensive). My husband was out visiting a client today and stopped by a small business (Ivan Martin) that makes custom leather items for dogs and horses. He bought the leash (5/8 inch thick and 6 ft long) shown in the picture for $26 (including tax). It's quite nice. I was considering ordering a leash from The Wag (http://www.thewagcanada.com/) but now I don't need to.

Ivan Martin doesn't have a website so it's unlikely that many folks are aware of him. If you are interested in his contact info. then please send me a PM.

kind of pricey, I can sell a nice leather leash for 15.00,but it would have rivots and not the weave

Yes that is expensive.  Sometimes it depends on the quality of the leather though.  Either way for the training I do i would need rivits unless i were in need of a drag line or something like that.

I have the Amish here and they also do custom work.

The leather is good quality and I consider the price reasonable for my area (we have a 13% HST tax here)- especially since I don't have to pay shipping and duty. An unriveted leash is fine for my OB needs at this time but I can't see the guy refusing to make a riveted leash if asked. I can't comment if he's Amish but with a name like Ivan Martin, I'd hazard a guess that he's Mennonite ....but who isn't in my area of SW Ontario? Even my husband is Mennonite.

Dont support the amish. Just look at how many are running puppy mills and the way they treat dogs.

I have bought stuff from the USA before and you pay triple in the end over here in Belgium. Not from the Company you buy from the prices are okay but the shipping costs are more than the product at times, then you pay the Belgian customs as much again
I had two Drawings done by Kelli, one of Izzy and one of Gina, the cost of the Drawings was fine, i chose the quickest postage way of getting them high cost but fine,
However the Belgian Customs charged me another 35 Dollars duty on a folder that contained two Sheets of Paper Drawings, Despite a not so nice phone call to them i still had to pay before they passed the Drawings over, Proper Rip off Merchants

The Amish  and their puppies gotta eat too, there are plenty of non Amish who run puppy mills as well.
If they make a quality product, I will buy it from them, and let ASPCA  deal with the puppy mill stuff.

realmccoy, its your choice but i wont ever give anybody a nickle that treats animals the way they do. I would buy the one for 26 bucks first. Just saying.
