I notice on the all breeds message board that quite a few breeders seem to be DM testing now (but those responding seem to be O/Seas, predominantly US).
This is a question to UK breeders - is DM testing being taken up/recommended in the UK?

Sticking my neck on the chopping block here Abby - DM ??? Perhaps I`m having a senior moment, Mo.

I have two stud dogs and one of my bitches tested (so far all clear) for DM (Degenerative Myelopathy or CDRM). I will probably get more done over time for this and other disorders, but it is something I will have to do gradually, as the costs of DNA tests can soon mount up! I don't think many breeders are doing it, although I know Antilli have a clear dog also.
I am also quite interested in testing for AF, as this seems to be becoming a widespread problem, but I am not sure how accurate the test is, or if they have located all the genes involved in the disease.

Mo LOL
If you're old school (like me) it was known as CDRM and they shortened it to DM - degenerative myelopathy (all these bloomin' acronyms)....
Thanks for your reply Kesyra, congrats on the clear tests and for taking up testing. I would really like to see UK breeders to now begin to take this up. I think the AF test hasn't definitively isolated all the genetic components to give a certain outcome to the test. I know that Wildmoor could explain it.
