Hi,
HGH (herding degree) titles? Do any of you have dogs who herd sheeps?
Any videos? Is it equivalent to schuzhund ? How to assess whether the dog has the capability? How does it all work?
Pls share, really curious

My pups grandsire has his. I see the trait in my pup. My female works sheep well but does not have a herding title and her sire/dam had sch titles instead.

Brix v. Eichenluft:
"Brix achieved his HGH (German herding dog) title with the 'high in trial' score of 94 V under the training and handling of Ulf Kintzel - after only 8 months of training from 0 to HGH! Brix received high praise from Ulf "he could work as a real herding utility dog, excellent working dog, excellent structure and movement" - and judge Wilfried Scheld
You can view Brix on his home page at: http://www.workinggermanshepherd.com/brix.htm
And yes, the HGH is equivalent to schutzhund.

Both of my dogs come from HGH herding lines and both have been titled in HGH here in the U.S., so yes they herd sheep. As someone had mentioned search Ulf Kintzel or go to www.whitecloversheepfarm.com, Ulf also runs a HGH herding discussion list. http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/HGH-Herding-In-America/ . It is indeed equivalent to a SchH title. A dog can be breed surveyed with an HGH title alone. As someone who trains and competes in both HGH herding and SchH, I do find herding to be a bit more difficult of the two. A stand at a specific point as 200 plus sheep move by in close proximity is far more difficult than a stand in motion in obedience. Also the sheep add entirely something else to it as well. I do train with Ulf and the last time we were there we worked 480 sheep that included very young lambs. Also, this flock was also not yet fully conditioned to working. Lambs take a while to get with the program so to speak.
