Hi,
Do you any of you guys have your "babies" doing focus heeling with you?
Can you share it with me? My dog used to be so distracted by people and other dogs.
As i slowly worked with her using the watch command, things started to improve and she started to offer me "check in' frequently while we went for our walks.its a great feeling when you feel that your dog does not ignore you on your walk

My 7 month old will do focused heeling (no lure - no food in the hand or ball in sight) but not for very long yet, maybe 10 yards or so at a time is all I've tried so far, but we just started working on it this weekend. Sorry no video yet. Before that I did a lot of foundation work with food training him to have the correct position in front and basic and maintain eye contact. I also did a lot of perch work and pivoting for tight left turns. He's still all over the place on walks though! I don't really use my formal training for daily stuff like walks.

I start working with my puppies when they are very young on focus. Of course it is all done in a fun and positive manner. Here is a video of my working my young girl in obedience shortly before she turned 4 months old). In retrospect I should have been heeling against a wall or fence line still given her tendency to not be in correct position in the video. She is now 3 and working on her UD.
I agree that attention work should be done initially with minimal to no distractions and work up to heavy distractions as the dog progresses. Focused heeling training is something that should not be rushed as without a good solid foundation in it, you will be toast later on in your training.
