Hi All,
My GSD Sergeant is a Black and red male 1.5 years and to me he seems to conform beautifully to the standard. When I got him as a pup, he did not have papers, but I was told by the Breeder that his Sire was Hungarian Champ and that his mother was a pedigree Dam, but he could not remeber what the names were or where the papers were misplaced. How can I determine Sergeants pedigree? Do I start with a DNA test? and if so, what should I expect to get from a DNA test? If I do a DNA test what do I need to provide or do to authenticate his pedigree and how do I integrate Sergeant into his family tree/pedigree? Your answers and advice are highly appreciated. I do no have a direct benefit from getting Sergeant his pedigree updated, but I think and know that he conforms just as well,if not better than many dogs on the pedigree database. I just want to do Sergeant justice, and see whether any pedigree/certification can be issued if he is rightfully a son of a listed progeny.
awaitng your reposnes and advice!

You need the sire and dam to stat your seach. The only DNA you could do at this point is to determine if he is purebred. But it wont help you with bloodlines. you must have the name of both sire and dam

if you are only concerned with posting your male on pedigreedatabase then you can post him on here just leave the sire and dam info blank. there are very few reasonable reasons for a breeder to not have paperwork on their puppies. it takes almost nothing to get them. either they bought unpapered dogs and bred them together therefore not being able to get registration papers, the dogs are so closely inbred that they couldn't recieve full akc registration ( only limited ) and therefore their offspring aren't registerable, they have stolen dogs, they lost registration priveledges through whatever registry they used, or they just lost the papers. if its just the papers being lost you can have his breeder contact akc ( im assuming akc ) and they can look his dogs up with his name. then he would have to order their pedigrees again and after receiving the pedigrees he could do a late litter registration and then you could get papers on your boy. if there are no papers because of any reason other than the breeder lost them then you are out of luck. P.S.-- It is not only looks that matter when it comes to the German Shepherd breed standard and also, even when it comes to looks many people who have a dog that is 'their best friend' i have to suggest looking up the definition of kennel blindness. not trying to sound offensive just very blunt.
