Kalibeck

Well, yes, she is......but today she went totally bonkers. Not in a bad way....but my hubby & I couldn't stand up for laughing so hard! This little dog is WEIRD!
Now, she's quite smart, & very affectionate.....but today we got some small idea of how much we still don't get about her brain! She is very good with her obedience, & she was running around outside with us while Carl was digging an area in front of our porch where we are putting a rose bed. Our soil is very rocky, & the going was tough for my poor hubby, who sat down next to me to take a break. Well Lil' Bit was sitting next to me watching the activity, she had already sniffed the roses, examined the bags of peat moss & bone meal, been up inside the wheel barrow, & generally made a pest of herself until she tired of nosing everything & sat down for some petting. As soon as Carl left where he was working, she had to investigate, & we expected that. But not what she did next!
First, she squatted & peed, walking along the entire bed in a squat until she had thoroughly marked all the freshly uncovered dirt. Then, she began nosing it, scratching with her front feet, & using her nose to cover the entire area we had carefully uncovered. She grabbed old leaves, twigs, anything she could find, frantically scraping & nosing until she had the whole area covered, as though it had never been unearthed. Carl & I were in hysterics! She was so upset! She worked feverishly to cover up the entire area, when she was done her whole muzzle was solid mud, her mouth was full of dirt......& then she ran up on the porch & looked down on it, then tore back down to cover up any little spot she might of missed. This went on for nearly an hour, with her running up to over look her work, & racing back down the stairs & around the porch to continue her mission! What a nut! Needless to say, our rose garden is on hold for now, some of the rose food is not too good for animals, & if she's this obsessed with this area, I don't want her to get into something bad...but we took every other dog out, including Kali, who is very territorial, & no one else was bothered by our attempts to garden!
So what's up with Bitty? Has she gone crazy? Or is she actually a reincarnated gardener? Just doesn't care for roses? What in the world has got into her? BTW-she didn't act anxious when she was done, she looked very pleased with herself....!
Anyone with some insight into this, I'd appreciate your thoughts. we're going to try again tomorrow. Thanks! jackie harris

Really, I so wish I could have had my camera! Bitty absolutely knew what SHE hoped to accomplish, & was determined to finish it! I have never seen anything like that, & it was FUNNY!!
It is damp & dreary today, but if we get a little sun or if it warms up a bit we'll try again, & I will bring out the camera then.
The more I think about it, the more I think she was upset by the change, & trying to show her dominence over the inanimate ground that suddenly changed! At one point, after she marked it & was pushing the dirt back down like crazy, she was actually kind of standing there humping...hard to describe, but so, so funny! And then she'd bolt around the corner, up the porch stairs, & look over the rails at her 'work'. She scraped with her paws to cover what was unearthed, but she didn't dig. She saves her digging for the middle of the gravel driveway, or where the water lines come into the house....that's more.....uh.....creative!!!!devil
She's a funny, precious girl! jackie harris
