I have a 2 and a half year old GSD.  About 6 months ago she started with anal sac infections.  They cleared with antibiotics and a strict expression schedule.  However a few weeks after she was cleared, the infection was back.  Vet said considering the severity of the infection her young age and the quick return, we should remove them.  We did.  However, the smell is still there.  Took her to the vet again today and he examined her and says other than the smell everything looks as it should.  His only suggestion is to tinker with her diet.

Anyone ever hear of anything like this or have any experience?  Google is giving me nothing except anal sacs which my girl doesn't have anymore.

      What are you feeding..?

Sierra Natural ( Link below).  I believe its actually made by eaglepack.  She will sometimes get bored with a certain flavor so when she is slow to eat I will switch flavors.  Pretty much between the Holistic Lamb, Holistic Chicken and the Menhaden Fish and Potato.  She does get some people food as well being I have a 5 year old and an 11 month old, but not alot.  I had read in the Monks of New Skete book that they recomend mixing some yogurt in the food so I tried that, but hasn't changed a thing.

 Mercy13,

I thought you might be feeding a fish based kibble because my male had a bit of an odor on a fish based kibble....

Thanks, but I don't think that is it.  She has been on the Lamb for 2 bags now which is probably about 7-9 weeks.

Dogs who get plenty of bone quit that anal sac thing. Start either feeding raw or feeding some pork neck/turkey neck a few times a week. It'll clear that stinky butt up quick. If it doesn't, divorce the dog. That's what I did to my stinky husband.

anways back to the subject.. i feed my dog orijen fish, and his but doesnt stink.
but he always eats chicken legs, turkey neck etc.. lots of raw meat for him and bones too..

could it maybe be the brand of kibbles??? maybe something is not working with the kibble of your dog?
