I have been thinking about and looking at a lot of GSD ears the last few days and was wondering what was the soonest/fastest/youngest you have ever seen ears stand and what was the latest/slowest/oldest....?
Of course I mean "naturally". I'll never forget the first time I saw a GSD with a dobe ear tape job..... a sad & memorable day for me
The most sage ear advice I ever received from a good friend and well tenured dog lady was "well, they'll either stand or they won't...."

Our Kali met her first foe at 11 weeks & her ears uncurled & stayed up forever...Becketts ears were so soft I even tried taping them....that slowed them down . They eventually came up on their own. But I think that wobbly ear up & leaning stage is SO precious! Don't hurry it, just enjoy all the stages, they are really too short! jackie harris

My last litter I had 3 pups with ears up at 4 weeks. The last one to go up had them up @ 10 weeks. I have a 7 month old male whose ears are taking their time, I tried gluing them tepee style as my vet recommended, @ 5.5 months. They are up but now they cross at the top of his head at times, hope they relax. LOL

These work wonderful for lazy ears........ they help to give the ears a natural shape so the ears can more easily stay up.

Shave hair from inside of ears, place thin layer of glue on ear, place thin layer of glue on insert, when tacky place insert into ear. just be careful not to let the glue drip into the ear.... pups don't seem to notice them once they're in.
Wait until pup is 5 or 5.5 months and re-insert them for 4 weeks......... if this doesn't work, they most likely won't come up.

Thanks for the feed back -
I have a male I held back that took forever for one of his ears to be all the way up all the time - he had what I liked to call "good ear days" & "bad ear days". He is 9 months old now and the ear is good. He is a large boy and a bit of a late bloomer across the board, but it still drove me crazy. He also had on again off again ear infections beat that with colloidal silver spray and I added Nupro silver to his food (Orijen) plus rotated between cottage cheese, yogurt and egg add in's to his meals. Plus lots of bone and kong chewing. So that was my slowest ear buddy -
I have a litter that is 5 weeks old today and there is a little girl whos ears stood up on wednesday night so she wins the fast ear prize from me! I'll have to snap a picture of her she is freaking adorable she looks like a mini adult.

My pup's ears were up at 6 wks, but then started to get really floppy. My friend told me to sprinkle KNOX unflavored gelatin over his kibble for two weeks. That's what he used on his pups and he swore by it. So I did, boy that really worked for me! His ears never went back down, they're like antlers now. It might be just coincidence, but worked magnificently for my dog.

I like the KNOX tip - I'll have to remember that
I'm not a fan of tapping, gluing, propping up and the such..... but a little nutritional help is all good in my book

Try it for a couple weeks. There are 3 packets in a little box, use half a packet on each serving, so if you feed your dog 3 times a day you should use 1 1/2 packets per day. Let me know how it works for you!
