In the scale of 1-10, 10 being most strongly hereditory, how would you place bloat for the GSD?
I am thinking about using a stud dog whose sire suffered from it.

I wouldn't use him, personally.

I have to agree..10
I knew a women who bred mastiffs, her bitchs sire bloated and died, she bloated twice and her one and only litter of 11 pups, 7 suffered bloat at some point in their lives. The sire of the litter never bloated. I would not breed a dog that has bloated, jmo.

I once wanted to use the sire for stud for my (now) older girl, but learnt that he had had bloat and recovered.
I shunned him, but now one of his sons is turning out great.

None of mine ever bloated.
I thought it was more of the breed as a whole when exposed to a certain chain of events.
Correct me if i am wrong
I thoght bloat could possibly happen if you fed or watered after they were active
