I'm not very good at reading pedigrees, and have never paid much attention to my current dog's papers, but at a friend's suggestion I took a closer look. The sire's pedigree says "No Common Ancestry in 5 generations", but when I looked at it, his grandparents are clearly brother and sister. Same sire, different dams. Is this normal?? Why would anyone breed two dogs that closely related?

They are half brother and half sister. What is the common sire's name? That could give you a clue as to the "why". And line-breeding is perfectly normal, close line-breeding however, is not for the amateur. I hope this helps.

Wanko Von Weiss Blau is the common sire. Doesn't give me a clue at all, but I don't really know how to read pedigrees...

I would just start taking a peek--meaning start clicking away, and maybe you'll start to see common patterns after a while. As you click, notice who is being linebred on. Some names start to become familiar after awhile because in the end, all roads lead back to Horand. Have fun.
