Word has come to our attention that there are several people trying to obtain some or all of the dogs recently seized in the Janice Bartmess case. All good and fine if intentions towards those dogs are good and fine.
Everyone needs to be made aware that rescue IS and HAS BEEN making provisions for these dogs to be taken in and placed in good homes to live out their lives as family members. None of those dogs will be euthanized or rot in a shelter.
The AKC is being notified of the names and registration numbers of the dogs that were seized. They are also being notified as to the current registered owners of these dogs and the fact that those dogs were seized by animal control, obtained from a shelter and therefore UNeligible for registration or transfer. All names associated with Janice Bartmess or any of the dogs in this case have been sent to the AKC and an investigation has been requested. We have also requested that anyone submitting a transfer application on those dogs be included in that investigation.
The shelter is fully aware of attempts being made by certain people to obtain the dogs for breeding purposes, fraudulent ownership claims and even "straw" adoptions where the dogs will end up right back in the hands of the people who are affiliated with Janice. We are dilligently working with the shelter to keep these dogs safe and assure that ALL the dogs will be spayed and neutered before leaving and that they will NOT come with papers or be able to have progeny registered with the AKC or any other breed registry no matter where they go.

As well as an upade, this was meant as a clear WARNING to all those who may be looking to get their hands on these dogs for any kind of profit or exploitation. It will not be tolerated. The abuses Janice Bartmess and her associates heaped on our breed can not be allowed to continue.
There are a number of people actively working to save these dogs and any others. We have committed to doing whatever we can through any legal means available to ensure these dogs do not end up back in the hands of abusers or puppy millers.

At least any puppymiller who latches onto them will not be able to register progeny. Those dogs will be reported to AKC as out of the running. I feel sorry for whoever tries to register them! AKC will sanction their whole operation and any dogs they have ever bred.

Westside GSDR is pulling at least half the dogs next week. They do great work. They also have a satellite rescue in Colorado.
