Hi,
My 5 Month old Pup has been a bit shy of the Mower may be too loud... yesterday I took the mower out ouf the shed, he came to smell it and was very interested... I decided to turn the mower on so I could cut the grass and my pup basically decided to have a full attack on the mower. I had to drag him away to his crate as all he wanted to do was to go back to it to attack it.
We are training for schutzhund.... I was wondering if some one with more experience could tell more about this behaviour,...
May be he will be a fighter rather than a flyer...
Took the mower out today again to see what he would do, he comes to it happily as normal....He is not happy with it when it goes on, I have to hold him back... (Now I know he need to be crated before cutting the grass)
Thanks for any info!

Ideally I think you are aiming at mowing with no nonsense from him - not a huge request.
I would have him around every day with the mover turned on and stationary, and I would be doing focus training with him, and get closer each time his focus builds - focus with yourself and he, and rewards for focusing on you and ignoring the mower - he gets rewarded.
This is aiming at de-sensitisation, and concentration on something else. I think its a while for you to do it properly before you get the mower moving, and you will need assistance from a second person to handle the mower whislt you carry on with focus, and then heelwork around the mower, or at least walking focused on you, within the vicinity of the mower. Let us know how you get on, reallly interested. Mo.
It doesnt seem unsurmountable, just an annoying problem and you have to be pleased he is going forward rather than running away

At first I laughed at him, but then it got ridiculous, and I had to knock it off and act serious about it.
Very good sign, he'll do great with a job!

Swifteagle...Yes, my male did the exact thing with the tractor, 4wheeler, bikes, and vacuum....
I agree with Penny's post.....That is what I have done and it has helped. However, if Prince thinks he can get away with it he will take a bite every time..... The lil Rascal..: )
Deanna...: )

Thank you all for your answers...
I was just curious as it was weird to me to see him go from shy to a full attack on the mower. as if a switch ha turned on. I was not sure how to read this behaviour.....

My pup loves to try for the vacuum, I have had to impress the "leave it!" with him.
