Was that printed in the USA magazine, Mystere?

Very thought-provoking article!  The GSD world needs more people like Koos, who are not afraid to speak their mind.

I have read this article once before, and it is very thought provoking. I feel that It mirrors the concerns of many for the future of the breed.

Thanks for putting it up, I enjoyed reading it again.

The direction of the GSD at the highest level is determined from the top down and those who profit most from it. It is no different in Germany than in the U.S. and the Am. Show Shepherd. The folks in power determine what is desirable.

Do any of you really think that an article from Koos will affect the breeding of those who are selling dogs to China for hundreds of thousands of dollars. These are the folks who tell you what a GSD is and should be and show you how to profit from it. Just as a couple of breeders and a phenomenal salesman showed the U.S. what a GSD should be, all the while collecting the $.

Nothing is going to change. Those at the top are making money and those of us at the bottom see the business model and try to emulate, or at least to profit enough to support the habit.

The world of the GSD has become global. It is no longer just a "herding" dog. It has become a "show" dog, a "sport" dog, and in some cases still a true "working" dog. You just have to choose the direction you want to go in and stop believing and promoting the sales pitch that one is all.

One thing is for sure, Koos can't be labeled a moron for speaking the truth!!

Rik 100% true.

I for one though will never give up hoping that things will change, even though I know that logically it never will. It's all gone too far and the money and 'success'  involved will prevent any altruistic development of the breed.

Indeed.

This is an excellent article which I have read before. I also agree that the Martins are the root of the problems that we face today especially in the show dogs.  The show dogs of today do not have the working qualities and abilities of yesteryear.  Many breeders have too many dogs and will not take on the task of working their dogs to maintain the working qualities of the past.  It is easier to buy the qualification.

I am also a fan of Alfred Hahn, an experienced and true dog man who was eventually pushed aside by the Martins because of his views.

Is Alfred Hahn still alive and still breeding? Some great dogs came from that kennel!

Alfred Hahn passed away a few years ago.
