Are you getting him interested in the ball to teach him obedience or just for play?

Not a hard item to make, a little leather and a stick connected to each other by a cord.
By this age I have started training, what will you be doing with your new dog?

The flirt pole works well or if your dog likes to bite and is more into the fight reward him with a tug and try to play that way.

Some working line dogs have a high prey drive but look at you stupid if you through a ball, mine does. He will take out a cat or bird in a minute and I found it cant be changed. Try the stuffed animal on a stick or string on the ground and see if he is interested, if so you might want to change his training to scent or tracking work. If he is a house pet then hide and seek both with toys and people , mine loves this. You do have to let people know what you want to do with the dog as advise is directed to that. good luck on new pup and remember they are not grown until around 1 1/2 to 2 and can change alot.
