Very sad story......
"Skyler Robinson, 20, was taken into custody after an overnight hunt, and a second suspect, 19-year-old Evan Scotese, was taken into custody at his home Wednesday morning."
Nothing was said about injuries sustained by these two criminals. Did the dog not bite, was the dog in a muzzle?

Oh my gosh, that is so sad. :(

Maybe the a$$holes had so much damage from falling down the stairs at the police station, nobody could see the bites

The dog was deployed off lead down the shoulder of the major road!
Handler was too far away to offer support to the animal (there's no "I" in team).
Dog thrown into a busy road and killed instantly for a bum who had stolen $300, probably been picked up over the weekend anyway!
There may be some gaps in the decision making process there.
Slightly different if it was a Gun man running to attack a school full of kids, it might be worth the calculated risk.
My heart goes out to everyone for this avoidable tragedy.

From what I gather the dog lunged at the suspect as if he was going to bit a sleeve. I'm impressed the dog tracked him down in a half mile - and of course put his life on the line.
Ronin, I agree with you but these situations are tough judgment calls. I'm sure the officer is heartbroken as well.

Hindsight is always 20-20. You can train as much as you want but when you are on the hunt and the target gets closer and you develope tunnel vision. You even start to tune out audio because of your focus. I'm sure the officer goes over this in his head several times an hour and wishes the outcome was different. I just hope the officer recovers in a reasonable time and gets back at it.

Ronin,
There may be some gaps in the decision making process there.
How good is your decision making process and what can you base that expert, split second, always correct amazing ability you have on? Have you ever been there? How many armed suspects have you tracked and apprehended?
Slightly different if it was a Gun man running to attack a school full of kids, it might be worth the calculated risk.
Yea slightly different maybe the dog would bite one of the running kids or a teacher that got in the way......... How do you know where this guy was going? A gun man ran into a school the other day taking hostages. Good decision making process right there...............on your part?????????????
It always easy to Monday morning quarterback form the safety of your keyboard.
The K9 was killed and that is a tragedy. None of us were there, and none of us have the whole story. Sorry, but the speculation and the armchair QB'ng really irritates me.

May I add that the LEOs stood in line outside the veterinary clinic that the dog was taken to in tribute to his sacrifice, very moving that so many cared so much. jackie harris
