I used to be critical of GSDs with such a pronounced stack, thinking they were bred to have that feature. I figured it only made hip dysplasia more likely. Then, one day recently, I happened to glance at our 7-month-old solid black puppy and he was standing in a "perfect natural stack." At least I think that's what our wonderful trainer called it. This dog comes from working lines, I think, and I have no plans to show him. He's apt to be too big for the standard. I don't recall our previous GSDs, the first one black, standing that way and our trainer said GSDs are not the only breed that have the characteristic and it is natural. I had read somewhere that GSDs were the only breed that stands with one back leg in front of the other with the severe slant of the lower back. I guess that's incorrect, too.

Hello,...I had been trying to get a good stack on my male for quite a long time....I just gave up.... Then to my surprise, I realized that if I was patient he would do it naturally....It was perfect...
