Royal Canin is a very good dog food! They have their own product for German Shepherd puppies, I would start your puppy with that. Just stay away from corn/grain based dog foods as some German Shepherds have a very poor digestive systems that causes them to get diarrhea. Just my opinion, I'm sure there are others out there for you, but good luck to you and your new puppy.

I feed Orijen Regional Red and Adult, I just mix the two togeather. Good food, pricey and all 5 of our dogs are doing very well. I would feed Regional Red instead of the puppy blend if you go that route.

I plan to feed my GSD Orijen Regional Red but can i feed it for my 2 months old puppy?

I heard that Orijen Regional Red is for adults

I feed Orijen 6 fish. They also have a Large breed Puppy formula. It is pricing but well worth it. I mix it with raw also.

Regional Red is all life stages. I'm currently feeding it to my litter of 5 week old puppies with goats milk.

I do not care for the ingredients in Royal Canin and I've seen many, many GSDs who look like crap on the their gimmicky "breed" diet. It does not compare at all to Orijen.

I would suggest trying whichever one you want, and see how your dog does.  If the coat is not shiny, the stools are not firm, etc, then I would change it to something else.

It always gets me when I hear people preach about how good this super expensive food they feed their dog is, then I see the stools in the yard, just puddles of foul smelling goo...It's not digesting, it's not good for your dog, change the food!

What you feed your dog should not depend on the price...It should depend on how the dog does on it.  As stated above, if the dog's stools aren't firm, and the dog looks like crap, then you need a different food.

I would advise you to review this website. It analyzes different dog foods and gives some great info to help you make the decision.

Had a 7 month pup suffer an intersusseption while on Royal Canin, & the vet surgeon put the blame squarely on the kibble, as they use beet pulp for a filler, & according to the vet, beet pulp is not tolerated well by some dogs, & since my pup had no other issues, he said he was pretty sure it was the Royal Canin. I also got some e-mails from other folks whose dogs had problems while on RC, including a lady whose 3 month old pup died after extensive vet care to try to save it....they could not prove it was the RC, but strongly suspected it.
On the other hand, my dogs never looked better than when they were on Orijen. Totally superior food. If you are worried about the high protein level, the same company makes Acana, an excellent kibble with lower protein. Good luck! jackie harris
