OK GSD LOVER

by OK GSD LOVER on 21 October 2010 - 16:10

I was wondering what the members of this forum thought of my puppy.  I am thinking of doing schutzhund with her.  She is a day short of seven months old in the photo.  Her lineage is German/Czech.  Thanks in advance for your replies.

Nice puppy! I dont know what sort of opinion you are looking for - noone knows whether she will do well at schutzhund and she is far too young anyway. Enjoy her, play with her, concentrate on having fun and enjoying sharing your life with her.

I have done alot of research this week re my working dog and it appears that the experts do think that no dog should be trained hard under a year old for sure. Prelim Hip xrays with excelent positioning would be good to have and then I have learned to make sure you are feeding this dog a good diet. Im not a diet expert. I am now on grain free foods but the optimal from what I am being told is to learn how to feed the Raw diet properly and to excercse this dog with swimming to help to build up the muslces with no strain on the skeletal structure.  Insist on a proper positioned xray and xray after the pup has been swimming with the best musculature strength.
I was given this site http://leerburg.com/hipart.htm  for alot of good info on hip placement during xray and reasons to feed your dog a certain way and swimming.
I came here looking for help and have found some nice help. This site looks like the person is very educated in GSD and their hips/ health.
Just passin on some info I was given. It was helpful to me I hope it is to you.
Good luck with your dog and if you have one who can work like that I hope you find information on the temperment and what is needed with the dogs drives,
Tracy

Thanks Tracy.  We regularly swim our dogs.  They love it and it seems to give them exercise without strain.  We feed Solid Gold Wolf King and have great results with it.  I am very proud of this puppy and she seems to be coming along nicely.  Thank for all the complements and suggestions, they are very much appreciated!

Swimming is really good exercise and gentle on the joints for a growing pup,

She is very pretty.
