Since we are on the subject, I have been cautioned about my males pedigree by a couple of people just recently, with regard to line breeding... I have zero knowledge about the dogs in his pedigree line. I tried to do a little research about line breeding, inbreeding, and the like. Too confusing... Does anyone else see anything of concern...Just curious.....
Thanks Deanna...: )

His seems a typical showlines pedigree, not overly linebred. I can't help you with flaws or strengths of any particular present day line. I, too, am studying lines & am working from the past to the present, & I have found some of the most incredibly linebred dogs in American Showline Shepherds....yikes! Some have the same dog in all 4 grandparents pedigrees, & that's not even the really tightly linebred dogs. So, to me, your boys pedigree doesn't seem bad, or extreme. Just remember, pedigrees are fine, & it's good to know what's in your dog's background, but you can only judge your dog by studying the flesh, bone, & spirit dog himself! And from what I've seen of Ruger so far, you two seem pretty pleased with each other! My girl Kali has some of those Am-bred pedigrees in her background, & I can tell you, maybe it's the Fanto influence, or the Lasso in the 5th generation, but she's the best GSD in the world, except for maybe my other GSDs....so don't sweat it! LOL!

Jackie....Your Quote....."it's good to know what's in your dog's background, but you can only judge your dog by studying the flesh, bone, & spirit dog himself! "
very nice... I guess that sums it up....

Your male is line bred on some of the same dogs that his parents are already line bred on. You have to be very careful about doing this. If you match the same genes to many times together is degrades the gene. For example, if you have a working dog and keep line breeding how your dog was line bred on the same black dog, when that black gene is paired wth itself too many times that is where you see that light brown color come through on an all black dog or spots of lighter black. It actually degrades itself not amplifies it any more. See what I am saying. you have to open up the lines if you ever breed your dog or line breed on completely different dogs. you cant keep putting the same genetics on repeat. This can effect temperment, color, hips, etc

I,m getting the female shortly from the kennel in Texas to keep for the winter and work her to a title. I,ll periodically post info and pics on how she is training.

I have heard of some issues concerning ethics with this breeder. I would check that out before buying one of her dogs. Looks good, drives good is not always good.

careful with that breeding Bob! Anja had HD and was dog aggressive. I would not double up on her breeding. loved her mom, but Anja had problems, and the poor bitch was bred anyway by Alt Ostland.

I kept Anja for almost 8 months, so I know what she was like. had 2 DDR imported male pups that Judy came and got, placed them in the SAME KENNEL as Anja, and low and behold the pups died supposedly of snake bite, but I would bet Anja killed them. I had to stay on top of her constantly while here, she would go after puppies, small dogs, didn't matter.
