I hear that the KC have put the liver colour back on the list of recognised colours due to the fact that there have now been a few liver litters registered. Does this mean that they just include colours that are becoming increasingly popular and drop those that are not on a whim , for example if there is a drop in whlte litters will they remove this from the list?
I am not sure why it was on , then off and now seemingly on again. . . . . any thoughts . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Thay will do anything for £££££££ thay dont care what is right or wrong in any breed thay dont care about health just £££££££ so chop and change to suit there pockets sad but true

the color alone does not cause health problems, so I can't see why you would say they don't care about health. accepting a color has nothing to do about the health of the individual dogs

I interpret shostring's post as: instead of making needless regulations on color, maybe make regulations on the health of the breed. For example, dogs without hips and elbows certifications are not recognized. But then, as shostring has pointed out, they'd lose money for such a beneficial regulation.

has the SV regulation on breeding only scored dogs really changed much of anything? are the dogs healthier? are the joints sounder?
until individual breeders start choosing for and breeding sounder stock, it doesn't matter what the kennel clubs do.

mjypzz that is what I meant uber land the color does not cause health problems but the kc do not care what health problems are within any breed all they care about is ££££££ I have all my dogs health tested hip/elbows ect and as you know it cost a good few hundred pounds for each dog so why should the kc not make it mandatory for all breeds to be health checked the kc accredited breeders a lot of them do not do health tests and the kc encourage people to buy from them the kc do not care about the gsd good breeders who do health tests all they care about is ££££££

Not a problem if they are health tested. I only know of one liver in this country which has a hipscore below the BVA average.
The rest are either way over or they haven't even bothered to score.
Two liver bitches had litters this year without even being scored.

There have actually been 3 liver bitches have litters this year , one is scored at over breed average , one is not scored at all although was xrayed and known to have very bad hips and the other was x rayed and due to a problem with paperwork this could not be submitted for scoring but is believed to be well below breed average.
My question is why do the kc remove colours that they do not deem acceptable and then put them back on again when liver litters start to appear?

When the Border Collie people complained about 'missing' colours the KC said it was because they had not been used recently, and so they only chose the more commonly used colours. Probably the same here, with liver being left off the list as it had not been requested recently. Maybe they have now been asked to register the colour so have decided to put it back on the list. If a dog's colour has been registered as 'non-standard' you can submit the registration and get it changed if they have subsequently re-admitted the colour.

Maybe there has been complaints made by the breeders about it so the KC put it back on ?
Not a good advertisement for health though really is it, i take it these breeders with these colours are not accredited breeders as they are not scoring ? I sure wouldn't be believing a breeder who claims to have x-rayed but there was a problem with the paperwork so it couldn't be scored. This should have been sorted out in advance before putting your bitch in whelp.
They are hardly improving the breed are they ?
