I was thinking of taking up Sch but asking around I still can not make up my mind. One of the clubs that is near me, the trainer is a man called Ulf and also after serious consideration i still can not make up my mind to join this club. As on further background checks I found that his club perfome very badly when it comes to the physical aspects of competeing. Could anyone point me in the right direction, as looking at this clubs last results I see his Fiancee Margaret was disqualified on more than one occasion at the same trial. This is nothing personal against the man Ulf as I know from being on another forum that if you do not agree with him and don't do his group hug, he bars you from the forum. Although with this forum it is great as you have the freedom of speach and to enquire about Sch. As my pups future in training is held very deer to me as i do not wish my dog to become spoiled or mis trained by a novice cascarading as a hot shot trainer. So is there a webpage available that you can check and refernce any good trainers ?  Wishing you all the best in your training

Hi Jamie

My dogs get disqualified because I am a crap trainer and don't put the work in, even K9Ulf cannot work miracles.   Look up the BAGSD and GSDL Working branch websites for a selection of clubs all over the UK and check them out yourself, you can't expect people on here to do it for you .

Good luck and hope you find happiness one day.

Results don't lie.  Do the club members compete at a level above club?  Do they title dogs regularly.  Does the training director still work and trial dogs?  Does the helper train and trial his own dogs?  You can't tell because you do not know enough to evaluate.  In the USA each club has a different personality.  Some are more social, meaning more BS happens than training.  Some clubs are all about business.  Get in work your dog, do some tweaking and see you next week.  Some clubs only let newbies bring a dog after attending say 5 training sessions.  Then have an attendance policy.  Good luck in your search.

Too true Bazza, an anonymous internet stalker is a bit creepy, but if that's the only way he can get his kicks, I suppose it is better than doing it in reality.  He's quite some macho man to creep around the internet under assumed names, bullying old ladies, must have run out of flies to pull the wings off.   Clearly does not have the bottle to vent his spite on those who are really challenging his position in his quest for world domination in the Schutzhund field.

I think the last post

"so why put the poor dogs throug this and not train them for the day to pass ?"

was pretty telling if he thinks the dogs have to be" put through" something that implies they suffer by being prepared for competition, clearly his idea of training dogs must differ a great deal from mine coz my dogs are anything but "poor" and frankly do not know a competition from a training day or a game on the field and if training for Schutzhund in a way that means the dogs enjoy it as much as I do means I don't compete at top level then, thank the mighty Zarquon that I am in it for the journey rather than the destination.

It is interesting Margaret, when you say you do not feel that your dogs are "put Through" the ordeal of training/competing as they do not know a trial day from a training day.
Would you say the same thing about Ulfs malinois that he competed with in the above linked trial.
The dog was very clearly out of its comfort zone(to say the least) in the protection work.
I believe one of the judges comments was, you have an obedient dog who is not very brave.
Did Ulf not think it would be unfair to subject such an animal to that ordeal?.

These are the results from Ulfs last qualifier.

thank you Kyle on my search. I got told this

Hello Jamie

If you want to take up Sch as a competitive sport do not be fooled by random clips of trick training with weak dogs, find a trainer that has verifiable Sch results themselves or by people they have trained in top competition not just there own local club trial, also be very wary of so called trainers that pop their heads up with a “training system exclusive to themselves” usually these types come with a foreign accent, study the results of the trainers and ask around like you are doing now.
