I have a 10 month old female GSD that just weighed in at 67 pounds. She finsihed her first heat cycle about 6 weeks ago, and prior to that she was 72 pounds. Her appetite has dropped, so I played it safe and took her to the vet. The vet says she is in excellent health and has excellent muscle structure. He said that she might just be bored with her food, and to add some type of cheese or yogurt. I did try that with very little luck. He also suggested to switch dry foods. She is currently on Blue Buffalo mixed with a little quality canned food. What is a good dry food that peopel have had success with.

Wow, I went thru the exact same thing. My female went into heat the same age and I also feed Blue Buffalo. My female just turned 12 month yesterday. Since she went into heat her eating habits have slower started comming back. But as soon as I think she is eating ok she will not eat one meal. Because of that I switched her nite feeding to raw chicken. I give her a leg quater and she eats that fine. I was skeptical of raw just from ignorance but love the results. At this time I still give dry food to make sure she gets the other nutrients she needs. The last couple of days she has actually eaten all of her dry that I feed in the morning. When it comes to dry she will eat a little then get distracted and come back. I realize she will eat better if I stand next to the bowl but if she is willing not to eat because I not next to the bowl so be it. She is healthy and has more energy than I can handle sometimes so I dont get too worried. But had the exact same issue. Eventually I will probably drop dry food all together. Everything seems better with raw and I am surprised. Even started feeding my 8 year old beagle raw. Good luck with your girl.

There are many, but my boy does well on Natural Balance, Limited Ingredient, brown rice and lamb.

Try any type of Fromm, Surf n Turf is the best, or Solid Gold Bark at the Moon, some picky dogs like Evo, too.  Other things that can be added- sprinkle of parmesan, plain yogurt, and low-sodium beef or chicken broth is also a favorite.  Or try raw.

Your worried over five pounds? Your vet said she's fine. I add cheese to my dogs food often, craft singles, only to increase fat content and break up the boredom. I don't think you have anything to worry about myself.

What are your opinions about Blue Buffalo Wilderness dry food.

by Gemini on 09 September 2010 - 15:09

Some on a prev. thread gave me this link to review dog foods. I plan to switch to wilderness but this link says not good for a young dog. Check this out and hope this helps.
