Lots of factors can be the cause of a torn ACL.
- Dogs with no hind angulations or not enough (funny it's not something we find in AM. lines because they have more angulation in the rear)..Chow Chow, rothweiler, labrador etc...
- overweight dogs
-it has been sais lately that some of the dogs affected by it may have a predisposition because of loose ligamentation and displacement of the angle of the knee.
- And of course...trauma
-I think a lot has to do with the fact that dogs are more and more coach potatoes and then once a week they go for a ride and catch the ball or frisbee but there bodies are not fit enough to sustain pressure in the articulation...lots of dogs are obese..just like us!!
We see a lots of those in a year but most of them bernese mountain dog (as if they needed that!1), labrador and golden...This is becoming a real problem!!
