First, let me say that I am not calling into question the quality of the dogs at von Hayden. If that is all that matters to you, then this post probably won't interest you.
For one, I don't like any breeder telling me what I must do with my dog. There is a big push for NuVet Plus on their website and a statement that it is "a MUST to all our puppy buyers and clients." There is obviously a hidden financial relationship here as well which calls into questions the ethics of the breeder who has chosen not to openly disclose the nature of the relationship and has contractually required her clients to purchase a lifetime supply of vitamins from them. Furthermore, there is a lot of personal fighting going on with this woman on her Facebook page. I was also friend requested by her husband or boyfriend because he wanted to know who it was talking to his woman. Once he was satisfied that I was simply a GSD person, he moved along. Nonetheless, the entire situation was ridiculous.
Lastly, she is posting pornographic images on her Facebook page - a page frequently viewed by people at work or at home with their children present. This demonstrates a low level of moral and ethics in my humble opinion. While I am not personally offended by anything she posted, it is completely unacceptable to have these images popping up at work or in front of my children. Not only is it illegal, but it is in poor taste and demonstrates a lack of class.
I believe it is important to maintain a relationship with one's breeder and for that reason, I think the breeder's character is as important as the quality of the dogs. For that reason, I will be looking elsewhere for my next GSD.
