As far as i know the breed is NOT seperating but we all know that the GSD is debated amongst many of you breeders. Some like certain looks over others and some of you believe you know what is best for the GSD and accuse other breeders of failing the breed.

The Northern Inuit (breed of dog) has seperated into three breeds N.I, Utonagon and Tamaskan. I dont even think the breed is 30 years old. Just cause the breeders like yourselves have argued about what they think is best.

So would you agree with the breed seperating? Cause the way you all are going it will only be a matter of time before one of you choose to make your own "Line" a new breed and it wont be long before that person has followers!

Geordiegaviino.I guess that answer to your question re seperating the breed would be a resounding NO.it has been tried before and the KChas dismissed it both times.most people i,ve spoken to regardless of which side of the fence they are on still wish the breed to be known as german shepherd dog. Some still want to retain the word Alasatian. The kc have requested the breed clubs to approach their members with respect to voting on this matter and to collect the votes for transmission to themselves by the end of this month(Aug)i suppose that it all hinges on the YES votes against the NO votes.i personally  would prefer the name Alsatian to be dropped.we will just have to be patient and wait for the outcome.Carole Spelman.

I cannot see how it can be divided. Even some of the 'alsatian' breeders occasionally use a stud with germanic background. Plus, there are dogs from the British bloodlines that are not 'alsatian' in type. Think about the Brittas type and those going back to Premonition etc who was definately a mix of line type. Margaret

I'm thinking RSV200 is trying this now.

Edit: sorry, should have been RSV2000.

Noddi yeah they use the germanic dogs etc... cause it is still the same breed but if they were to seperate they would prob use the odd dog from a different line to keep the gene pool open long enough then they would slowly close all doors for outside dogs to be used in the breeding then they will breed "their pure dogs to their pure dogs" and hence trying to claim it as a different breed. It would just happen over night it would take years of breeding before they offically claimed they have a the "new" breed.

The way these breeders argue, it will only be a matter of time before a split takes place

Geordiegaviino,it is only a tiny minority that want this breed to split into GSDS and ALSATIANS.Its one man and his tiny band of followers and believe me this band of followers is diminishings by all accounts. They,re are quite a few who have become disallusioned by this gentleman and his attitude,re several posts on the thread BORDER UNION CHAMP.SHOW..These ppl.DO NOT USE GERMAN DOGS and rarely use anyone elses, they tend to use their own males componding already on very close linebreeding as its now not possible to reg.puppies with the KC if they are bro./sister,dam to son, sire to daughter matings.the closest allowed would be half bro./sister etc. They will eventually need to come out and use gsd blood or watch the supposed breed of ALSATIAN,slowly die out thro.genetic health probs.ie EPILEPSY,EPI .I wont mention hip/elbows as i know full well that some are doing these tests.its epilepsy that would be the worry for me .Carole S.
